Albany State’s Jordan Simpson selected for HBCU All-Star game

Albany, GA — Albany State senior basketball standout Jordan Simpson has been chosen to participate in the prestigious 2024 HBCU All-Star game. The event, set to take place in Phoenix, Arizona, on Sunday, April 7, will showcase Simpson among the elite HBCU talent across the nation.

At 6-foot-9, the Los Angeles, California, native has made a significant impact on the court, starting in all 15 games this season for the Golden Rams. Simpson has been a dominant force, averaging a double-double with 10.5 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. His performance has not only led the team but also placed him among the top players in the SIAC conference.

Simpson will represent Team Mahorn in the All-Star game, one of two teams composed of 12 distinguished HBCU All-Stars each. His selection highlights his remarkable contributions and achievements, making him one of four players from the SIAC to earn this honor. The All-Star game is exclusive to graduating seniors who have completed their NCAA eligibility, emphasizing not only athletic prowess but also character, integrity and academic achievements.

Head coach Gayle expressed his pride and admiration for Simpson’s achievements, stating, “Jordan’s selection to the HBCU All-Star game is a testament to his hard work, dedication and leadership on and off the court. He represents the best of Albany State University, and we are thrilled to see him showcase his talent on a national stage.”

Simpson also shared his excitement about the opportunity, saying, “Being selected for the all-star team is an immense honor. I am grateful to God for placing me in this position and to the coaches as well as my teammates for trusting me to perform on the court. Basketball is more than just a game to me, it’s my passion, providing opportunities to showcase my skills and connect with others.”
