ALBANY — The Albany State University Theatre-Dance Collective will present two performances of “The Vagina Monologues” on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the Joseph Holley Fine Arts Center Black Box on ASU’s East Campus.

“The Vagina Monologues,” by playwright and activist V (formerly Eve Ensler), explores women’s stories about reproduction, sexual encounters, sexual violence, menstruation and more. The Collective’s co-artistic directors say they are excited to open their season with this woman-centric work.

“Women’s bodily autonomy is being challenged,” Ta’Varis Wilson, the director of theater at ASU, said.

“Absolutely,” added Elizabeth Delancy, director of dance at ASU. “Women are suffering great harm and even dying because their bodies are caught up in political strife.”

The directors agreed that now is an ideal time to center women’s voices in matters concerning their bodies.

The production also will feature two new works performed by the ASU Dance Company.

For additional information, contact Wilson at (229) 500-2219/[email protected] or Delancy at (229) 500-2269/[email protected].

The Joseph Holley Fine Arts Center Black Box is located at 126 Joseph Holley Circle in Albany. Admission for the performances is $10 general admission, $7 faculty/staff and $5 for students.
