Monroe student shot at city club

  • The shooting victim told police he may have been shot by members of the Eastside Boys street gang, police reports show.

ALBANY — A Monroe High School student was shot while at an Albany club early Monday morning, police reports show.

Jason Anthony Rogers, 18, was rushed to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital by his friends after being shot in the buttocks when what may have been a gang-related fight broke out at Club Climaxx around 1:39 a.m. Monday, police reports show.

Rogers told police from his hospital bed that he was shot while walking to his car. Rogers said that he didn’t know who shot him, but he thought that he may have been shot because he told people he knew as the Eastside Boys that he was from the south side of the town, police reports show.

A witness told police that the party at the club ended about 1:15 a.m., when a group of guys started fighting as everyone was leaving, according to the police report.

That witness, identified by police as India Offord, said she saw two men walk to their cars, grab handguns and fire multiple times, the report says. Police identified Zavieyon “Zay” Hightower as a possible suspect.
