Stand robbed

  • Police are investigating a Dougherty County robbery.

ALBANY — An area vegetable stand was robbed and its clerk assaulted by two men Thursday afternoon.

Around 2 p.m., Douhgerty County Police officials responded to a robbery call at Jack Daniels’ Garden Patch at 409 Philema Road.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that the store’s female clerk had been slapped by two men who then stole an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing the scene.

“The victim said the men drove off in a white, older-model four-door car, possibly like a Chevy Caprice, after the robbery,” DCP Lt. M.J. Wood said.

Wood said the men were described as two slim but muscular black men, about six feet tall with close-cut haircuts. They are believed to be in their mid-twenties.

Investigators notified neighboring Lee and Worth counties to be on the lookout for the men and were spotted canvassing an area off Meadow Lane near the Lee, Dougherty County line just a few minutes after the robbery.

Wood said that the victim wasn’t seriously injured. She recognized the men but police weren’t sure if they had been past customers or if they had just come by to canvass the store before planning the robbery.
