MCLB’s Kennedy retires

  • Marine Corps Logistics Base-Albany gets a new senior enlisted leader.

ALBANY — Appointed Sergeant Major at Marine Corps Logistics Base-Albany Friday was Scott C. Mykoo, now the base’s senior enlisted Marine.

Mykoo ceremonially received a sword from Sgt. Maj. Randall Kennedy in a relief and appointment ceremony Friday, symbolizing the change in leadership at the base.

“The past does not define our future; it should prepare us for it,” said Mykoo. “We should always we looking for a better way to do business. That you can expect from me, the command and all aboard the installation.”

Mykoo said he often was up late at night thinking of how he could be a more effective leader.

“You can count on me. I will give you 110 percent,” he said.

At his desk, the message “PMA” is one Mykoo learned from his mother, he said. It stands for positive mental attitude.

“I’m a half-full, not a half-empty kind of guy,” he said. “That’s what you can expect from me always... A positive mental attitude.”

Mykoo enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1982 and served in Grenada, Beirut, Lebanon, Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, San Diego, Calif., Kosovo and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

He said he’d already met with community leaders and was looking forward to more involvement with the Albany community.

“The energy and the initiative that (Mykoo) displayed in such a short time is truly impressive, and I truly, truly look forward to having him as my partner in leadership command,” Col. Christian Haliday, base commander of MCLB, said.
