ATC to be filmed for TV show

  • Albany Technical College will retain the rights to a national segment featuring the college to be run on the ION network in the future.

ALBANY — Albany Technical College will be featured on a national spot soon, college spokespeople said Wednesday.

Crowne Point Productions will be in Albany today to film a segment on Albany Tech’s commercial truck-driving program, college spokeswoman Kathryn McPhail said Wednesday.

The segment will be aired on “The World’s Greatest” TV program on the ION network. Crowne Point Executive Producer Kyle Freeman said the college had to pay a $9,000 “affiliate fee” to retain the rights to the segment and use it in promotional material.

Freeman explained that the college was selected for the program after its researchers found Albany Tech and about 11 other truck-driving programs nationwide.

“We don’t get national attention that often, so it’s very cool,” said McPhail. “We’re pumped.”

ATC’s truck-driving program director David Ratliff said he takes students through an eight-week course that includes classroom work, training course driving and, finally, highway driving on a big rig.

Ratliff said the students must pass a driving test to get the proper driver’s permit to complete the class. About 13 students are enrolled now, he said.

Times and dates have not been set for the program to air yet, McPhail said.
