Albany liquor store robbed

  • Police search for an armed robbery suspect Wednesday morning.

ALBANY — Police were combing an East Albany neighborhood Wednesday for a man who robbed an East Broad Avenue liquor store at gun point.

Albany Police Department Spokeswoman Phyllis Banks said a black man in his early-to mid-30s and about 5-8 walked into the AB Liquor store at 723 E. Broad Ave. about 10:20 a.m. Wednesday.

The man demanded money from the store clerk, a 51-year-old woman, at gun point. The woman handed over an undetermined amount of cash before the man left, Banks said.

The man was last seen traveling north on foot behind the store in a residential area. He was seen entering a home on Wheeler Avenue, but police did not find him when they searched the home, Banks said.

Banks said the man was wearing a black shirt, black cap and jeans and may have had a gap in his front teeth.

No one was injured during the robbery, she said, but residents who see anyone suspicious matching the description of the man should be cautious and report the information to police.

Police can be contacted at (229) 431-2100 or (229) 436-TIPS.

“If they see somebody suspicious in the area, contact police,” Banks said. “Do not approach him in any way. We do not know what his mind set is, but he does have a handgun.”
