Albany police investigating Molotov cocktail incident

  • A man wanted by police for torching his ex-girlfriend’s house, has a violent criminal history, court documents show.

ALBANY — A man police believe was angry with his ex-girlfriend tossed an incendiary device commonly known as a Molotov cocktail into her living room Wednesday night, investigators say.

Police are looking for Frank Jefferson Jr., 44, who they say is a threat to his ex-girlfriend and who they fear may wreak more violence if not caught, Albany Police spokesperson Phyllis Banks said.

Around 7 p.m. Wednesday, a woman called police saying that her ex-boyfriend was outside of her Gardner Avenue apartment and that he had just thrown a Molotov cocktail through a window.

“She told police her ex-boyfriend came by her house and threw a Molotov cocktail in her window and almost burned down her house,” Banks said. “The fire department was called out, but I don’t know about the total of the damages.”

Banks said that investigators believe Jefferson is a legitimate threat to the woman’s life.

“We’re trying to get him ... He’s a threat to her; we believe he’s a threat to the victim,” Banks said.

Warrants for terroristic threats and acts were issued for Jefferson Thursday.

According to documents on file with the Dougherty County Superior Court, Jefferson has a violent history that includes obstructing police officers, terroristic threats and acts, possession of a firearm and aggravated assault.

Anyone with information is asked to call Albany Crimestoppers at 436-TIPS or the Albany Police Department at (229) 431-2100.
