Donations sought for needy family

ALBANY — Donations are being sought for an Albany family, which lost all of its belongings in a house fire earlier this week.

The funds and donations are being solicited for Shimona Thomas-Wright and her 15-year-old son, Christopher.

A fire Tuesday night started on the stove and destroyed their home on Samford Avenue in southeast Albany.

Wanda Pride, who is helping organize the effort, said furniture and household article donations can be arranged by calling her at (229) 291-4772. Furniture and household articles will be accepted through Aug. 29.

Monetary donations are being accepted through Greater Grace Church at (229) 429-7047. People wanting to donate may also mail their gift to Greater Grace Church, c/o Shimona Thomas-Wright, P.O. Box 5433, Albany, Ga. 31706. The American Red Cross chapter here also can be contacted regarding assistance to the family.

The family is now staying at temporary housing arranged by the Red Cross, Pride said.
