Trials begin in fall

  • Three men were indicted in the shooting death of Jack Camp in May 2007, court records show.

ALBANY — The trial for the men accused of killing a popular paramedic, rescue team member and bounty hunter is scheduled to get underway Sept. 2, court documents show.

Dontavis Wilson, Christopher Ingram and Darrell Anderson have all been accused of murder in the March 2007 shooting death of Jack Camp, a paramedic and former deputy coroner who police believe confronted some suspicious men outside of the Regency Club Apartments just before the shooting.

According to court papers filed this week in the case, all three will stand trial Sept. 2 at 8:30 a.m. at the Dougherty County Courthouse.

The Camp shooting sparked a massive manhunt by city authorities and prompted nearby Dougherty County Comprehensive High School to issue a “Code Yellow” lockdown of the school the day following the shooting.

Named in a six-count grand jury indictment handed down last May, the three were each charged with murder and felony murder counts.

In addition to the murder charges, Wilson is facing two weapons charges, and Ingram was charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

Court documents show that prosecutors believe Wilson and Anderson both possessed marijuana and cocaine which supports one theory that Camp interrupted an alleged drug transaction that ultimately resulted in his death.

The indictments, however, fail to shed any light on the weapon investigators believe was used in the crime, saying only that one of the three used a handgun to kill Camp.

Originally charged in April 2007 with lying to police, Ingram’s charges were later upgraded.
