Tifton police: Death ruled murder case

TIFTON — A man found lying in a pool of blood at a Tifton residence Saturday died from a gunshot wound, authorities said Monday.

A friend discovered the unresponsive body of John Towns Jr., 52, around 7 a.m. Saturday at a home on the 200 block of West 19th Street in Tifton, according to reports from the Tift County Sheriff’s Office.

Monday, authorities revealed that Towns died from a gunshot wound and that foul play was suspected.

“We’re pretty sure it’s a murder case,” said Mike Lewis, special agent-in-charge for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Sylvester office.

No charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing, he said.
