Death ruled natural

  • Investigators say a man found dead at his home Friday was preparing to move overseas with his wife.

LEESBURG — Investigators now believe that a man found dead in his Leesburg home Friday morning died of natural causes, sheriff’s officials say.

The 52-year-old man, who hasn’t been identified by deputies pending the notification of next-of-kin, was found after movers arrived at his home at 168 Seminole Drive and couldn’t get a response. The movers called for police assistance, Lee County Chief Deputy Dennis Parker said.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents were called to the scene just after 10:30 Friday morning, along with Lee County Coroner Ronald Rowe and Lee County investigators. But, according to Parker, there was nothing to indicate that the man’s death was anything but natural.

“Really, we called out of an abundance of caution,” Parker said. “He was a relatively young guy, and we always try and err on the side of caution. We’re satisfied that it was natural death to the point that he won’t be sent for an autopsy.”

A civilian worker at Marine Corps Logistics Base-Albany, Parker said the deceased was preparing to head overseas.

“He was a civilian employee at the Marine Base, and apparently his wife had just been assigned to work over in Germany and they were getting ready for the move,” Parker said.
