William A. Dorough

PITTS — William A. ”Bill” Dorough, 74, died early Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at his residence. A native of Crisp County, he was born to the late James Homer Dorough and the late Mattie Wright Dorough. Bill was the manager of The Cordele State Farmers Market and also a Crop Insurance Adjuster with Rain & Hail Insurance Company.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara B. Dorough of Pitts, Ga. sons and step-sons, David (Vicky) Dorough of Smithville, Ga., Hal (Allison) Dorough of Sylvester, Ga., Steve Payne of Pitts, Ga., and Mike Payne of Dublin, Ga., a daughter and step-daughter,

Vicki (Lee) Pullin of Cordele, Ga., and Debra Perry of Cordele, Ga. a sister-in-law Sammye Dorough of Cordele, Ga., grandchildren Amber Chappell, Misty Kyle, Candy Chappell, Magun Dorough, Austin Dorough, Donovan Dorough, Adam Perry, Shannon Payne and Kassi Payne, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, July 10, 2008 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 11, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery.

Patricia Ann Roland

COLQUITT — Patricia Ann Simonton Roland, 70, of Colquitt, GA, died on Wednesday July 9, 2008 at her residence.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 2:30 p/m at Colquitt United Methodist Church with a private graveside to be held at a later date. Rev. Eric Sizemore, James Ard, and Kelli Stanyard will officiate.

Mrs. Roland was born February 23, 1938 in Thomaston, GA, the daughter of Essie Kate Darby and Garland Gary Simonton. She resided in Thomaston until she graduated from Thomaston High School in 1956. She then moved to Atlanta, GA and worked in the Governors office in the Capital where she met her future husband Billy Gray Roland, Sr., of Colquitt. They were united in marriage on March 7, 1962 at the United Methodist Church of Marietta, GA. They resided in Athens until 1968 when they moved to Statesboro, GA. They resided there until they settled with their family in Billy’s hometown of Colquitt in 1974. Mrs. Roland retired from the Miller County Department of Family and Children Service with 30 years of service in 1998. She was a member of the Colquitt United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher. She also introduced the Acolyte Service that still exists today.

Mrs. Roland is survived by her husband, Billy Gray Roland, Sr. of Colquitt, GA; one son, Billy Gray (Gina) Roland, Jr. of Blakely, GA; 3 daughters, Caroline (Jimmy) Raines of Colquitt, Darby (Tabb) Godfrey of Albany, and Elizabeth Roland of Buford, SC; Mother, Essie Kate Simonton of Colquitt, GA; 6 grandchildren, Julianne Raines Pollock, Ansley Raines, William Calhoun Raines, Jr., Wiley Roland Godfrey, Garrett Charles Roland, and Billy Gray Roland III; 3 great-grandchildren, Nicholas Alexander Pollock, Joseph Shane Pollock, and Brooklyn Raines Pollock; 2 nieces, Kelli Lynn Stanyard and Patricia Kate Robins. She was preceded in death by her father, Garland Gary Simonton and 1 sister Claudette Lynn Banks.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 12, 2008 from 1:00-2:30 p.m. at Colquitt United Methodist Church.

Jeannette Ann Short

ALBANY — Mrs. Jeannette Ann (Breece) Short passed away Tuesday, 8 July 2008 at her home in Albany, Georgia. Mrs. Short was born 12 February 1927 in Spiceland, Indiana. She was the daughter of Edith Mabel (Smith) Bates and Kenneth Kennedy. She was preceded in death by her husband Ned Parker Short, Jr. and a son, Carl Andrew Short. She is survived by four sons: Stephen W. Short (Candy), New Palestine, Indiana; John A. Short (Susie), Albany, Georgia; William L. Short, Albany, Georgia; and Darren R. Short (Ann), Atlanta, Georgia.

Jeannette is survived by seven grandchildren: Abby Franklin (Brad), Albany, Georgia; Colin Short (Julie), Maricopa, Arizona; Amy Daniel (Jed), Albany, Georgia; Caren Short, Washington, D.C.; Luke Short, Albany, Georgia; Lilly Grace Short & Caroline Reece Short, both of Atlanta, Georgia. Jeannette is also survived by three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Short was retired from General Motors, Delco Remy Division of Albany, Georgia. Before moving to Georgia, she was a long time resident of Anderson, Indiana. After her retirement, she lived in Palm Coast, Florida, just recently moving back to Albany.

Services for Jeannette Short are scheduled for Friday, 11 July 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Porterfield United Methodist Church, 2200 Dawson Rd, Albany, Georgia 31707. Officiating will be Pastor Charles Gardner from Peachtree Road UMC in Ata.

Interment of cremains will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Willson Hospice House at 410 5th Ae. Albany, GA 31701 (or email at phoebefoundation@.at.ppmh.org).

Pearcie Sheffiefld Wilkerson

BLAKELY — Pearcie Sheffield Wilkerson, 91, of of Edison, died on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at Palmyra Medical Center in Albany.

Funeral service will be held Friday, July 11, 2008, at 11 a.m. at New Light Free Will Baptist Church with interment to follow in Church Cemetery. Rev. David Crowdis and Rev. Jackie Williams will officiate.

Pallbearers include Mark Wilerson, Al Suddeth, Timmy Ware, Jason Worthy, Matthew Regan, Shaun McGee, and Scott Eubanks.

Mrs. Wilerson was born on August 5, 1916 in Baker County. She was a homemaker, and was a member of Enterprise Baptist Church.

She was preceded in in death by her parents, Celius Sheffield, and Chloe Rebecca Bush Sheffield, and her husband, Geroge William Wilkerson.

Survivors include two daughters, Levon Redding and husband John of Monre, and Judy Herrington and husband, Frank of Georgetown; two sons, Jimmy Wilerson and wife Betty Ann of Albany, and George Wilkerson of Edison; one sister Lucille Sheffield Craft and husband Austin of Patmos; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Enterprise Baptist Church. Family will reveive friends Thursday Night from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
