Idell Roberts

DAWSON — Sister Idell Roberts, 83, of Parrott, GA died on Sunday, July 6, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 12. 2008, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Parrott, GA. Rev Lucious Mitchell will officiate. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Sister Idell Roberts was born in Terrell County, GA on April 22, 1922 to the late John Thomas Rembert and Annie Lou Peters. Idell was the oldest grandchild of the Peters’ Family.

Her education was received in the public schools of Terrell County, GA. At an early age, she confessed her love for Christ and joined the Turner Chapel at Red Hill African Methodist Episcopal Church, Parrott, GA. In later years, she joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Parrott, GA.

Idell met and married Clenzie Grier, Sr. and to this union four children were born: Clenzie, Jr., Stephen Thomas, Geraldine Grier and Chester Grier. She later met and married her childhood sweetheart, Jerry Roberts who preceded her in death. She lovingly accepted the title of mother to his children and they lovingly loved her back.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two children: Clenzie, Jr. and Geraldine.

Precious memories will be left with her sons, Stephen (Betty) Grier and Chester (Maggie) Grier, both of Houston, TX; her sister, Nadine Loman of Dawson,GA and her ever-loving extended family and employer, Dr. Todd Smith and his wife Sandy and their children, Kimberly and James, all of Albany, GA; 71 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Samuel Straughan Robinson

ALBANY — Samuel Straughan Robinson, Jr., 94, of Albany, GA died Thursday, July 10, 2008.

He was born in Palls, VA, and was the son of the late Samuel Straughan and Hylah Edwards Robinson, both of King William County. He was an honors graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute with mechanical and industrial engineering degrees. He served in the coast artillery during World War II. He retired from the Bell System in 1979 in Burlington, NC. He was an avid gardener, golfer, and bridge player. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mrs. Felicia Haile, his two brothers: Mr. Davis S. Robinson and Dr. Joseph Alexander Robinson.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years: Dollie Lunday Robinson, Albany; a son: Samuel S. Robinson, III, Glen Allen, VA; granddaughter: Jeannie R. Larkin and her husband Nicholas, Lancaster, KY.

Mr. Robinson’s memorial service will be SATURDAY 10 am at Riverside Cemetery. The Very Reverend Mark Jones and the Reverend Wallace Marsh will officiate.

Florella Watson

DAWSON — Florella Watson, 63, of Albany, GA died on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Palmyra Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 12. 2008, at Sander’s Gift Missionary Baptist Church in Sasser, GA. Rev J.H. Reynolds will officiate. Interment will follow in Countyline Cemetery, Sasser, GA.

Sister Florella Watson was born September 26, 1944 in Terrell County, GA to the late Earl and Fannie Lou Watson.

Her education was received in the public schools of Terrell County, GA. At an early age, she confessed her love for Christ and joined Sander’s Gift Missionary Baptist Church, Sasser, GA.

Sister Watson departed her earthly life on Thursday, July 03, 2008 at Palmyra Nursing Home, Albany, GA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Roosevelt Watson (one of the Dawson 5), Henderson Watson (one of the Dawson 5) and Willie B. Watson.

Precious memories of a wonderful life will always dwell within the hearts of her five sisters, Earline (Jimmy) Smith of Dunkirk, NJ, Sarah Jackson of East Orange, NJ, Annie Lewis, Lorine Jordan and Eva Watson, all of Albany, GA; one brother, Earl Watson, Jr. of Albany, GA; one aunt, Willie Mae Davenport of Tifton, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
