Mozelle Kelly Fitch

BAINBRIDGE — Mozelle Kelly Fitch, 86, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2008 at Memorial Manor Nursing Home.

The graveside funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2008 at Roselawn Memory Gardens.

Marvina Griffin

ROANOKE, VA — Marvina Griffin, 68, of Moneta, VA, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 10, 2008. She is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, Donald L. Griffin, with whom she spent 22 years with as a Navy wife; two daughters, Crystal Cole, Valerie Archual and her husband, Jamie; four grandchildren, Clinton Griffin and his wife, Lindsie, Michael Burton, Ivy Archual, Aaron Archual; one great grandchild, Kaleb Griffin; brother, David Williams and his wife, Janie; and son-in-law, Tim Burton. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, July 13, 2008 at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel in Vinton, VA with Pastor Jeff Gardner officiating. James Hamilton Hilburn

COLQUITT — James Hamilton Hilburn, 71, died on Thursday, July 10, 2008, at Palmyra Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2008, at 3 p.m. at Cooks United methodist Church with interment to follow at Kelley Cemetery. Rev. Billy Mills will officiate.

Mr. Hilburn was born on March 8, 1937, in Miller County. He was a Labor Relations Specialist with the federal government. He was a member of Cooks United Methodist Church.

Survivors included his wife, Verlie Bundy Hilburn of Colquitt; one daughter, Karen (Tim) Edmonds of Fayetteville; two sons David (Rhonda) Hilburn of Kennesaw and Mark (Shelley) Hilburn of Sebring, FL; six grandchildren, Sarah Hilburn, Joseph Hilburn, Jessica Edmonds, Zack Edmonds, Wyatt Edmonds and Cameron Stache; and two sister-in-laws, Molly Hilburn and Betty Jean Hilburn both of Colquitt.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Cooks United Methodist Church building fund.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 2 to 3 p.m. at Cooks United Methodist Church.

John Milton Smith

AMERICUS — Mr. John Milton Smith, Sr., age 83, of 216 Columbia Avenue, died Thursday, July 10, 2008 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. A lifetime resident of Sumter County, Mr. Smith was born December 9, 1924, a son of the late A. W. Smith and Eunice Osborne Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Abberlene Butler Smith. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, was a member of the VFW, the American Legion and the Sumter Civic Fair Association. He was a member of Lee Street United Methodist Church.

Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held at 11:00 am Monday, July 14, 2008 in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Asked to serve as honorary pallbearers are Jack Johnson, Loveard McMichael, Mike Weldon, Charles Allen, Pete Smith, Morris Smith, Donald J. Smith, Billy Peebles, Marion ”Puzz” James, Buck Harris, Dan Torbert, Billy Butler and Wiley Booker.

A visitation will be held from 3 to 5 pm, Sunday, July 13 at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel and at other times friends may call at the home of his daughter, Cathy Allen, 317 Shirley Road.

Survivors include a daughter, Cathy Allen; a son, John Milton Smith, Jr. both of Americus; two sisters, Thelma McMichael of Americus and Mildred Alcorn of Columbia, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Mike Johnson (Heather) of Albany, Brooke Allen and Nikki Smith both of Americus and two great children, Madeleine Preston Johnson and Madison Kathleen Allen.
