ALBANY — Willie Oscar Dykes, 77, of Albany, Died on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Palmyra Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at 3:30 p.m. at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church with interment to follow at St. Paul Cemetery.

Virginia Fickel

ALBANY — The graveside funeral service of Virginia Fickel, 86, of Albany, GA who died Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery. Rev. Charles Jones will officiate.

A native of Colquitt Co., GA, born to Foster and Lillie Simmons, Mrs. Fickel had resided in Albany since 1941 moving from Moultrie, GA. She was a homemaker and a member of Byne Memorial Baptist Church where she attended The Open DoorSunday School Class. Mrs. Fickel was the widow of Roy Fickel who died in 1994.

Survivors include a son, Rodney Fickel and his wife, Kay, a daughter Tricia Fickel Maxwell and her husband Charlie, all of Leesburg, GA, five grandchildren and their spouses, Kent and Brenda Johnson of Richmond Hill, GA, Darren and Chimene Johnson of East Point, FL, Lou and Woody Hart of Albany, GA, Ronnie and Amber Skates of Santa Rosa Beach, FL and Stewart and Brandi Fickel of Albany, GA, a sister, Shirley Gordon, a brother and his wife, Buford and Georgia Simmons all of Moultrie, GA, two half-sisters, Jackie Hart and her husband, Guy and June Crosby all of Moultrie, GA, four half-brothers, Foster (Buddy) Simmons of Texas, Hubert Simmons and his wife Lori, Winfred Simmons and Mickey Simmons and his wife, Donna all of Moultrie, Ga, six great grandchildren, Jeremy Johnson, Kelly Johnson, Kati- Morgan Johnson, Parrish Johnson, Wes Puckett and Jordan Skates.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2008, at Mathews Funeral Home.

The family is at the residence of Tricia and Charlie Maxwell, 192 Dogwood Lane, Leesburg, GA, 31763.

James Kenneth Thomas

ALBANY — Mr. James Kenneth (Ken) Thomas Jr. 54, of Albany died Monday July 14, 2008 in Albany.

His funeral service will be held Thursday July 17, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Kimbrell-Stern. Blue Jean clothing welcome. Interment will follow at Floral Memory Gardens.

A native of Albany, he lived in Albany all of his life. He was a Tool Warehouse Foreman for Daniel’s Construction Co. He was lead singer of the Boot Hill Express Band and was also the drummer for Black Oak Arkansas Band.

Survivors include his wife Charlotte Arrington Thomas of Albany; one brother Karl Thomas and his wife Patti of Hayesville, NC; 2 sisters Kimberly Thomas of FL; Laketta Ambercrombie of Fitzgerald, GA; His mother Inez Thomas Wolfe of Albany; Nieces and Nephews Jimmy Mac Gray, Kensi Karlise Thomas, Ryan Thomas and Skylar Thomas.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Kimbrell-Stern.

Robert L. Walthall GYSGT USMC Ret.

ALBANY — The funeral service of Robert L. (Bob) Walthall, (GYSGT USMC Ret.), 67, of Albany, GA, who died Monday, July 14, 2008 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, will be conducted Friday at 10:00 A.M. at Mathews Funeral Home with full military honors. Rev. Bob Prince will officiate.

A native of Washington, D.C., Mr. Walthall had resided in Albany since 1978 moving from Virginia Beach, VA. He retired from the Marine Corps after twenty years and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. After retiring from the military, Mr. Walthall was employed as a logistics manager at the Marine Corps Logistics Base.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Walthall of Albany, GA, two daughters, Yvette Turner and her husband, Jerry of Macon, GA and Sherrie Riley of Warwick, GA, two grandchildren, Jared Turner and Lauren Turner of Macon, GA, three brothers, Fred M. Walthall, Jr. and his wife, Jean of Madison, FL and Dwight Walthall and his wife, Joan, of Edgewater, MD and Ted Walthall and his wife, Irma of King George, VA, five sisters, Delores Lowman of Westminster, MD, Eva Robinson of Philadelphia, PA, LaNae Grice and her husband, Victor of Fredericksburg, VA, Suzanne Kimball and her husband, Bob of Springhill, FL and Cheryl Helsley and her husband, John of DeWitt, VA.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home.
