MOULTRIE — Verdell ”Bull” Blount, Sr., 76, died on Sunday July 13, 2008, at his residence. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Mother Easter Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Westview Cemetery.

David D. Carter

TOLEDO, OH — David D. Carter, 81, renowned educator and mentor, music director and vocal performer passed away in the early morning hours on Saturday, July 12, 2008 in his home in Toledo, Ohio. A former resident of Newton, GA, Mr. Carter succumbed to his one and a half year battle with leukemia. Mr. Carter was born to Phillip and Ethel Carter on May 4, 1927.

Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his parents and 18 of his siblings. Surviving are his wife Isabelle Spaulding Carter, whom he married in 1948; sister Hattye Burns of Newton, GA; daughters, Deborah A Carlisle (James) of Toledo, OH, and Shari Mayer (Jon) of Arcadia, CA; grandchildren, Constance Glenn (Anthony) of Winchester, CA, and Phillip Carlisle of Toledo, OH numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Northern Daugherty

BLAKELY — Northern Daugherty, 83, of Gray, died on Saturday, July 12, 2008, at the Heartland Hospice Home in Macon. A graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Salem Cemetery with interment in the cemetery. Rev. Jakie Williams will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral at Salem Baptist Church Social Hall.

Mr. Daugherty was born on November 16, 1924, in Clay County, AL. He was born to J.D. Daughery and Amie Nelson Daugherty. He was a member of Edison Baptist Church. He resided in Calhoun County since 1947. He was the owner and operator of Corner Grocery in Edison.

Mr. Daugherty was preceded in death by his parents J.D. Daugherty and Amie Nelson Daugherty, and his wife Mary Culbreth Daugherty.

Survivors include one son, Jim Daugherty and wife Gail of Gray; one daughter, Diane D. Swenson and husband Keith of Santa Rosa, CA; one sister, Margie James of Birmingham, AL; fourteen grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
