Mary Elizabeth Hemrick Cross

ALBANY — Mary Elizabeth Hemrick Cross, 83, formerly of Albany, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, in Americus, Ga.

Her funeral service will be Saturday, July 19, 11:00 a.m., at Crown Hill Cemetery. Magnolia Manor Chaplin Dennis Stalvey will officiate.

A native of Athens, Ga., Mrs. Cross was the daughter of Levi Early Hemrick and Sara Elizabeth Hemrick. She lived in Albany from 1948 until she moved to Magnolia Manor in Americus in 2003. She was a retired teacher with the Dougherty County School System, with thirty-eight years of service. Mrs. Cross was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was a volunteer for many organizations, including the Albany Museum of Art. She was a charter member of the Chehaw Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and served as treasurer for many years. Mrs. Cross was a graduate of Young Harris College and the University of Georgia, with degrees in mathematics and education.

Mrs. Cross is survived by her husband Russell Eugene Cross, Americus; her daughter: Jeanie Cross Allen and her husband Richard Eve Allen, Augusta, Ga.; her granddaughter: Katherine Cross Smith, New York, NY and Singapore; her grandson Randolph Relihan Smith, Jr. and his wife Monica Navarro Smith and their sons Randolph Smith, III, and Daniel Smith, Atlanta, Ga.; her step-grandson Richard Elliott Allen and his wife Sallie Reynolds Allen and their children Wren Allen and Lucie Allen , San Diego, CA; and her step-granddaughter Eve Allen Cronje and her husband Adrian Cronje and their children Philip Cronje and Gibson Cronje, Atlanta, Ga.

The family is especially grateful for the years of love and devotion Mrs. Cross received from her caregivers, Erie Calvin and Sarah Prince.

The family will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern on Friday, July 18, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Jewell Ouida Grizzard

ALBANY — The funeral service of Jewell Ouida Grizzard, 82, of Plains, GA formerly of Baconton, GA who died Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Lillian Carter Nursing Home, will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Brent Duncan will officiate. Interment will follow Monday at 10:00 A.M. at Andersonville National Cemetery.

A native of Colquitt Co., GA. Mrs. Grizzard had resided in Albany/Baconton for fifty seven years moving from Worth Co. and had lived in Plains for the last two years. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include three sons, Darrell Grizzard of Albany, GA, Larry Wayne Grizzard and his wife, Glenda of Tifton, GA and Terry Grizzard and his wife, Marie of Albany, GA, six daughters, Beverly DuPonte and her husband Chris of Baconton, GA, Francis Jones and Lisa Watson both of Camilla, GA, Pat Andrews and her husband, Sonny of Newton, GA, Teresa Devane and her husband, Rick of Leesburg, GA and Bea Phelps of Albany, GA, two brothers, Wilbur Paulk of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Paul Paulk of Plains, GA, a sister, Bobbie Sellers of Albany, twenty one grandchildren and thirty six great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild

Infant Ty’Kwavious N. Johnson was born to Anudreka N. Johnson of Americus and LaCardo Scott of Shellman, on July 13, 2008. In addition to his parents, he leaves to cherish the precious memories of his short lived life, his twin brother, TyK’Kwaviyon Johnson who fought so hard to keep his brother strong, alive and well; grandmother Babrara (Antonio) Hill of Americus, GA; two uncles Tykendrick Johnson of Shellman, and Tykessie Johnson of Bronwood; two aunts, Alexis Hill and Antonia Hill both of Americus; great-grandmother, Lizzie M. Mary Simon Moncrief

ALBANY — Mary Simon Moncrief, 88, a life long resident of Albany, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Lee County Health Care.

Her memorial service will be THURSDAY, July 24, 2008 at 10 AM at Riverside Cemetery. Mr. David Stern will officiate. Her remains were cremated and will be buried at Riverside Cemetery.

Mrs. Moncrief was preceded in death by her loving husband A. E. ”Monty” Moncrief, a daughter, Joyce Bland, and a grandson, Clayton Bland. Mrs. Moncrief and her husband Monty owned and operated Moncrief’s, a retail gift shop in Albany for a number of years as well as a wholesale business which supplied merchandise to gift shops around the southeastern United States. She was a life long member of Temple B’Nai Israel.

The family will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern on Wednesday July 23, 2008 from 7-9 PM.

Odell Williams

DAWSON — Mr. Odell Williams, 76 of Dawson, GA died on Monday, July 14, 2008 at his residence. Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2008, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Lucious Mitchell will officiate. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, in Dawson.

Mr. Odell Williams, Sr., son of the late Quallis and Leanna Williams, was born August 19, 1931 in Terrell County, GA.

At an early age he confessed his love for Christ and joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Dawson. His education was received in the public schools of Terrell County. After eight years in the United States Army, he revived an Honorable Discharge.

On October 20, 1950, he was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Ollie Lee Moate. Their union was blessed with six children.

Odell was employed by Dawson Manufacturing for a number of years until his retirement in 1990. He along with his wife, were proud owners of Odell’s Disco, Dawson. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two children Barbara Ann Williams (1979) and Vincent Keith Williams (1987). Two sisters and one brother also preceded him in death: Gladys Mathis, Juantia Everette and Quallis Williams, Jr.

He leaves to cherish the memories of his life, three daughters, Deborah Ann Williams and Jennifer Denise Ward (Cleveland, Sr.) both of Dawson, and Linda Faye Mansfield (Julius) of Coral Springs, FL; one son Odell Williams, Jr. (Linda) of Dawson; seven grandchildren, Cleveland Ward, Jr.(Jamie), Precious Ward, Cullen Ward, Odell Williams III, Vincent Williams, DeAnna Mansfield, and Quallis Williams;one brother, Luther J, Williams four sisters, Mary (Franics) Hart of Albany, Susanna Hardwick and Mittie Allen Charlie, both of Dawson and Marjorie Spence (Rev. Homer) of Lake Placid, FL; two brothers-in-laws, Aris Mathis, Jr. of Dawson, and Johnny Everette of Albany and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many sorrowing friends.
