Roy L. Brooks
SYLVESTER Roy L. Brooks, 83, of TyTy, died Friday, July 18, 2008 at
Sylvester Health Care.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Banks Funeral Chapel, with
burial to follow in Paulks Chapel Cemetery. The Revs. Donnie Wright and
Donnie Sloan officiating.
Born in Worth County, GA, on October 12, 1924, Mr. Brooks retired from Union
Camp in 1989 after many years as a welder. He is the son of the late Ned Tom
Brooks and Willie Mae Hartsfield Brooks. He is the widow of Mary D. Brooks,
who died October 1, 1997. He has lived in Worth County since 2002, moving here
from Sedley, VA, where he lived most of his life. Mr. Brooks was a member of
the Courtland Lodge F.&A.M. No. 85 in Courtland, VA, and also a former member
of the V.F.W. Lodge in Sedley, VA. He was a member of Pine Hill Baptist
Church. Mr. Brooks was an Army Veteran having served World War II.
Survivors include two daughters, Nelda Page of Tarbbro, NC, and Mary Ann
Harrell of Franklin, VA; daughter-in-law, Sue Holt of Franklin, VA; a sister,
Katherine B. Alberson (John) of TyTy; and several grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today (Sunday) from 3 p.m.-5 p.m. at Banks
Funeral Home.

Ethel Southerland Cartee
ALBANY Ethel Southerland Cartee, 98, of Albany, died Thursday, July 17,
2008 at Palmyra Medical Centers.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Crown Hill Mausoleum
Chapel with the Rev. Steve Hurley officiating.
A native of Worth County, Mrs. Cartee had lived in Albany for most of her
life until moving to Americus earlier this year. She was a member of Union
Baptist Church in Worth County and attended First Baptist Church here in
Albany and was a member of their Homebound Ministry. She was preceded in
death by her husband of 59 and half years, Jack Cartee.
Mrs. Cartee is survived by her daughter, Linda Chapman and her husband Glenn
of Athens; two grandchildren, Alton Glenn Chapman and his wife Stacey of
Mableton and Laura Jane Chapman of Honolulu, HI.

Mary Simon Moncrief
ALBANY Mary Simon Moncrief, 88, a life long resident of Albany, died
Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Lee County Health Care.
Her memorial service will be Thursday, July 24, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Riverside
Cemetery. Mr. David Stern will officiate. Her remains were cremated and will
be buried at Riverside Cemetery.
Mrs. Moncrief was preceded in death by her loving husband A. E. Monty
Moncrief, a daughter, Joyce Bland, and a grandson, Clayton Bland. She is
survived by her daughter, Skippi Posey and her husband Don, of Albany; a son,
David Moncrief and his wife Kimberly, of Leesburg; son-in-law, John Bland, of
Conyers, GA; grandchildren, Debra Knight and her husband Chuck, of Albany,
Donna Armstrong and her husband Bobby, of Albany, Monte McNabb and her husband
Sam, of Statesville, NC, Shane Moncrief and his wife Beth, of Lawrenceville,
GA, Brandi Money and her husband Neil, of Douglasville, GA, Lauren Smith and
her husband Mike, of Newnan, GA; three great-grandchildren, Wesley, David,
Dallas Knight, all of Albany, Anna Mae and Braydon Armstrong, both of Albany,
Emily, Natalie, and Stephen Money, all of Douglasville, GA, Kurt McNabb and
his girlfriend Kristen Miller, of Clemmons NC, Kara McNabb, of Statesville,
NC, Lauren and Colin Moncrief, of Lawrenceville, GA, Bo Huddleston and his
wife serving in the US Navy; one great-great-grandchild, Shiyah Lyons, of
Statesville, NC; a first cousin, Carolyn LaSchob, of Albany; and several
nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Moncrief and her husband Monty owned and operated Moncriefs, a retail
gift shop in Albany for a number of years as well as a wholesale business
which supplied merchandise to gift shops around the southeastern United
States. She was a life long member of Temple BNai Israel.
The family will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern on Wednesday, July 23,
2008 from 7-9 p.m.
