Guitha Dale Flewellen-Bell

ALBANY — Mrs. Guitha Dale Flewellen-Bell, 57 of 312 South Valencia Drive, died on August 11, 2008 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at 3 p.m., at Kingdon Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, on 400 South Westover Blvd., in Albany. Brother James Little will officiate Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery.

Mrs. Bell was born on May 20, 1951 in Gary, Indiana. She attended Tattnall County Public Schools in Reidesville. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She worked as a Lab Technician at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include Mr. Jerome Bell of Albany; two sons, Sean Michael Flewellen, and Bernard Adam Span both of Albany; three daughters, Ashley Courtney Reese, Erica Denise Bell and Katrina Diamond, all of Albany; her mother Ora Mae Mayberry of Albany; two sisters Linda Fay James (Ulysee) and Carolyn Y. Mayberry all of Albany; five brothers, Bernard Mayberry (Jacquelybn) of Monroe, LA, Earl Mayberry and Paul Mayberry both of Albany, Arnold L Mayberry (Regina) of Biloxi MI and Kenneth E. Mayberry of Albany; one brother-in-law Luther Lewis; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Bell; and 12 grandchildren.

The body of Mrs. Bell will be at the church Saturday evening from 2 p.m. until the Funeral Hour.

Edgar James Matthew Bennett

ALBANY — The memorial service of Edgar James Matthew Bennett, 72, of 9602 Apian Way, Baconton, GA, who died Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at his residence, will be conducted Saturday, August 16, 2008 at 10:00 AM at Mathews Funeral Home. Father Ray Levreault will officiate.

A native of Detroit, MI, Mr. Bennett had lived in Baconton since 1984, moving from Lee County. He was a member of the Local 2082 UAW, Albany Artesian Car Club, National Desoto Car Club and WITT Motor Home Club. He was retired as a machinist for General Motors Co. and was of the Lutheran faith. Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James E. Bennett, his wife, Scharlene Draucker Bennett and a sister, Dianne Michaels.

Survivors include two sons, James Edgar Bennett of Albany and Allan Robert Bennett of Pelham, GA, two daughters, Natalie Ellerbee and her husband Philip of Chester, VA and Judith Marie Smith and her husband, Warren, of Long Island, NY, a sister Gail Eddy of Warren, MI, two half brothers, James Bennett and Robert Bennett, both of Michigan, two sisters- in- law, Rose Zeh, and her husband, Ike, of Clearwater, FL and Joann Hattey of Tarpon Springs, FL, five grandchildren, Justine Inman and her husband James, Chris Bennett, David Smith, Joshua Smith and Nathaniel Smith and one great grandchild, Breauna Inman.

The family will be at their residence at 9602 Apian Way, Baconton, GA 31716.

Clifford Dixon, III

ALBANY — Rev. Clifford Dixon, III, 37 of 112 Amicalola Court, Leesburg, died on August 9, 2008 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at 11 a.m., at Oakridge Baptist Church on 1708 West Oakridge Drive, in Albany. Rev. Richard Pogue will officiate. Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery.

Rev. Dixon was born on July 18, 1971 in Columbus. He a graduate of Hardway High School in Columbus He was a member of Oakridge Baptist Church. He was a disable Army Veteran and Minister.

The family of Rev. Dixon will receive friends and relatives at the home of his mother-in-law, Mrs. Wendy Hall of 2107 Gleneagles Dr. in Albany.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Delitta Scott Dixon of Leesburg; one son Devante Scott of of Leesburg and one daughter Luaire Dixon of Bainbridge; two sisters, Annette Dixon, Anptioniette RodiQuez, both of Phenix City, AL; a very devoted mother-in-law, Mrs. Wendy Hall of Albany; a loving grandmother, Mrs. Katherine Dixon of Rockford, ILl four aunts; two uncles; and one God-daughter Yondlonda Tukes of Albany.

The body of Rev. Dixon will be at the church Saturday evening from 10 a.m. until the Funeral Hour.

Inetha Hammonds

DAWSON — Inetha Hammonds, 87, of Newton died on August 11, 2008 at her Residence. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at 1 p.m. at Mathews Missionary Baptist Church in Newton. Rev. Henry Hogan will officiate.

Interment will follow at St. Mathews Cemetery in Newton. The family will receive friends at First Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Newton on Friday, August 15, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mrs. Hammonds was born in Dawson, on May 14, 1921, the first daughter of Samuel David and Brazie Lee Evans.

The family moved to Orlando, FL in search of better employment and educational opportunities before Inetha entered school. Upon the death of her father, she and her older brother, were indispensable in helping their ,mother care for six younger sisters, Louise (Pat) Evans of New York, Coretha Mack of Clermont FL, Ruth Thornton of Orlando, FL, Loraine Dyer (deceased); Martha Ownes of Fernandina Beach, FL and Mary Harris (Jesse) of Little Elm, TX. She had an older sister Ella Mae Williams (deceased), from her mothers first marriage to Edgar Harvey.

Inetha joined Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Orlando at an early age where she was an active member of the Baptist Training Union. She was an outstanding student in the public schools and grew into a beautiful, graceful young lady who caught the eye of Abner Richmond Hammonds, a dapper young gentleman from Georgia. The two were married April 9, 1939 and moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL to start their life together. Upon the death of Abner’s father, The Reverend Charlie Hammonds, they moved to Newton, to support his mother, Annie Ronie Hammonds. In Newton Inetha transferred her membership to First Pleasent Grove Missionary Baptist Church, the nearest Baptist church to her home. Later she transferred her membership to St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church so she could serve with her husband. She served in various capacities, including Sunday school teacher, missionary and a strong supporter on the Sunday School Convention, until her health Declined.

Abner and Inetha were blessed with five children; Katheryn H. Mitchell (James), Charles A Hammonds (Yvonne), Dixie H. Robinson, Homer L. Hammonds (Josphine) and Janice H. Lilly (deceased). They were dedicated parents, ensuring that their children felt loved, were welll-fed strong in the Christian faith and valued education and service of others. Abner’s home going was March 9, 1981.

Inetha taught in Baker County public schools for 44 years, beginning in 1945, in a one room-one teacher school in Southwest Baker County teaching students grades one through six. In the meantime she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Albany State University and a Master of Science degrees in early childhood education and guidance counseling. As the East Baker High School counselor she made arrangements for scholarships through the Trevor Fund and other foundations for students who wished to attend college until she retired in 1991.

Abner and Inetha have 18 grandchildren: Angela C Robinson (Eddie), Inga C. Shorter, Benita R Barber (Dirk), Bridgette H. Marshall (Lenny), Latanya P. Hammonds-Odie, Zellanye M. Hutchins (Reginald) Kinsel Renee Davis (Anthony), Charles A. Hammonds, II (Janine), Crystal R Holmes (Patrick) Rayne Y Mitchell (Kimberly), Wesley A. Williams (deceased), Homer Leon Hammonds, Michael Hammonds, Brandi Hammonds, Deidre’S Lilly, Quinten E Mitchell, Martin J. Mitchell (Uvonda) and Maria Finch-Hammonds.

In addition to her surviving sisters, children, and grandchildren, Inetha leaves to celebrate her home going: Sister-in-law Corenner Evans of Orlando, Bother-in-law, Uzziah A. Hammonds (Nellie) of Thomasville, Nephew Moses Elliot (Mary Alice) of Newton, Niece Julia Childs of Albany, 45 great grandchildren and many many nieces, nephews cousins and friends.

As Inetha lived she was respected for her wisdom and brilliance, perseverance and patience and determination and tenacity. She made her transition confident that ”God is in his Kingdom and all is right in the world.”

Mattie Bess Idlett

ALBANY — Mrs. Mattie Bess Idlett, 67 of 813 South Shadowlawn Drive, Albany, died on August 9, 2008 at Home. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at 11 a.m., at Beulah Baptist Church on 802 S. Jefferson Street, in Albany. Rev. J. H. Reynolds, Pastor, Rev. Henry Lee Holsey will officiate. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Garden of Memoray Cemetery.

Mrs. Idlett was born on November 1, 1940 in Worth County. She attended :Lee County Public Schools. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Smithville and she was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Carolyn Lewis (Alfred) and Mrs. Phyllis McCray (Frankie) both of Albany; one sister, Mrs. Estlla Moore of Albany; three brothers, Clarence Bess (Daisy), Ulysee Bess (Gussie) all do Albany and Henery Bess of Atlanta; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The body of Mrs. Idlett will be at the church Saturday evening from 10 a.m. until the Funeral Hour.

Ruth Hoff Mathews

ALBANY — Ruth Hoff Mathews, 78, of Montezuma, died August 13, 2008 at her residence in Butler, GA. Her funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at the Montezuma United Methodist Church. Rev. Bobby Moye and Rev. Nancylee Cater will officiate. Interment will follow in the Butler Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Cincinnati, OH, Ruth was born to Charles Anthony Hoff and Sarah Holtmann Hoff. She attended St. Boniface Catholic Elementary School and Mercy Catholic High School in Cincinnati. She met and married Walter Mathews in 1952 and resided in Butler during the time he was serving in the Korean Conflict. Ruth moved to Montezuma in 1956 where she was a homemaker and former secretary for Watson-Mathews Funeral Home for forty years.

Ruth attended Montezuma United Methodist, where she was Past President, former Recording Secretary and current Treasurer of the United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester Hoff and Howard Hoff.

Survivors include her husband, Walter M. Mathews, Jr. of Montezuma, three sons, Walter (Mike) Mathews, III and his wife, Joy Charlane, Gary Mathews and his wife, Charlene (Charlie) all of Albany and Tom Mathews of Montezuma, a daughter Lura Mathews Amos and her husband, Bill of Perry and six grandchildren, Tracy Ethridge and her husband, Allen, Chelsea Mathews, Caroline Mathews, William Amos and Giles Amos.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. 8:00 P.M. Friday at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma.

The family is at their Butler residence, 86 Edgewood Drive, Butler, GA, 31006.

Charles Moultrie

ALBANY — Charles Moultrie, 67, of 4004 Fennell Circle, S.W. Atlanta died Monday, August 11, 2008 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2008, at Friendship Baptist Church with burial in Riverside Cemetery.

Charles Giles was the first of nine children born to the late Tobert S. Moultrie, Jr. and Ardemra O. Moultrie in Albany on November 7, 1941. Educated in the Dougherty County Public schools, he graduated from Monroe High School in the class of 1959. He earned a B. A. degree in Sociology from Albany State (College) University, distinguishing himself as President of Sigma Rho Sigma Honor Society and pledging Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He did graduate work at Clark Atlanta University. Mr. Moultire served honorably in the United States Army before beginning his career path as Fulton County Fire Department, Charles found his niche in the Dekalb County Juvenile Court were he served as Senior Probation Officer and Court Safety officer for 36 years

Preceding him in death was his siblings Robert S. Moultrie, III and Yvette L. Moultrie.

He is survived by a daughter, Stacy M Dixon and her husband Alfred of Waldorf Maryland, granddaughter’s A’Ani and Alana and a grandson Alfred Jr; sisters Sharon M. Edwards, and her husband Samuel and Beverley A. Moultrie of ALbany; brothers Alton Moultrie and wife Velma, Michael K Moultrie and wife Sandra, and Marc A Moultrie and wife Melondy all of Atlanta, Georgia F. Tyrone Moultrie and wife Joanne of Albany. Great aunts Juliette Dollison of Albany and Addie Oliver of New York, NY; Aunts Glennell O. Marcus and husband Clayton of Baconton and Alice T Moultrie of Albany. Uncles Collin T. Oliver and wife Lille of Camilla, John E Moultrie and wife Inez, Huley Moultrie and wife Doretha and Calvin Moultrie and wife Dorothy all of Albany. Nieces, Lakatha Baker and husband Ronnie of Millledgeville, Maya Moultrie, Faith Moultrie and Morgan Moultrie all of Albany and numerous other relatives and friends.
