Christine Riley Cannon
ALBANY Mrs. Christine Riley Cannon, 84, died Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at her home in Leesburg.
Her graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday at Leesburg Cemetery. Rev. Mike Lyons and Rev. Bobby Moye officiating. Her visitation will be Thursday 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Kimbrell- Stern. Pallbearers will be Shane Cannon, Jay Cannon, Emory Kitchens, Alan Wheeler, Michael Elliot and Jason Morey.
A native of Albany, Mrs. Cannon had lived in Leesburg for most of her life. She graduated from Albany High School and retired from the State Bank of Leesburg. Mrs. Cannon was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Raymond Cannon, Sr.
She is survived by her daughter Phyllis Cannon Kitchens, Leesburg; sons, Thomas Raymond Cannon, Jr. and wife Susan, Leesburg, Ralph James Cannon and wife Flora, Leesburg; six grandchildren, Chrissy Kitchens Wheeler, Shane Cannon, Kelly Cannon Elliot, Jay Cannon, Emory Kitchens, Hope Cannon and 10 great grandchildren.

James Douglas
SYLVESTER James Douglas, 58, of Lakeland, FL, died on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at Lakeland Regional Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 1 p.m., at Banks Funeral Home. Rev. Tim Mathews will officiate.
Mr. Douglas was born on January 20, 1950 in Sylvester, son of Edward and Ruby Parks Dougless. He was marred to Marjorie Douglas. He lived in Lakeland, FL for ten years after moving from Tampa, FL. He was a retired mechanic in a ship yard.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Douglas and a sister Sylviann Douglas.
Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Mathis of Adel and Cynthis Jones of Lakeland, FL; one son, James Douglas of Adel; two sisters Brenda Courson of Adel and Betty Lawson of Ty Ty; three brothers Winfred Douglas of Plant City, FL, Gilbert Douglas of Sylvester, and Buddy Douglass of Smithville; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 23, 2008 from 12 noon until the Funeral Hour.

James Frank Moreland
ALBANY Mr. James Frank Moreland, 81, of Albany died on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Palmyra Medical Centers, Albany, GA. His funeral service will be conducted Friday at 11:00 A.M. at Avalon United Methodist Church. Rev. Ken Myers will officiate. Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Moreland was born March 25, 1927 in Turner County, GA and graduated from Ashburn High School in June of 1945. After graduating, he joined the Merchant Marines for two years and then returned home to Ashburn, GA where he started his career with Georgia Power as a helper.
His career with Georgia Power was interrupted in 1948 when he answered the call from the U.S. Army. His service lasted for two years at Fort Lewis, Washington.
After being discharged, Mr. Moreland returned to his job at Georgia Power Company in Tifton, GA and later transferred to Albany, GA. His career with Georgia Power spanned 42 years and he retired as a line supervisor in 1989.
After retiring, he was a self- employed electrician and owned and operated Moreland Electric for eighteen years. Mr. Moreland was a member of Avalon United Methodist Church where he attended the Friendship Sunday School Class and had just received an award for serving on the House and Grounds Committee for forty years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post {pound} 30 and the Southwest Georgia Ambassadors.
Survivors include his wife of fifty one years, Lola Burk Moreland of Albany, GA, children, Ronald David Moreland and his wife, Elizabeth of Alpharetta, GA, Elaine M. Hambric and her husband Ricky of Leesburg, GA, two grandchildren Kayla R. Coleman and Marshall T. Coleman, and two step- grandchildren, Amanda Hambric and Richard Hambric, Jr.
Mr. Moreland was preceded in death by his parents John Joseph Moreland and Mary Ponder Moreland and his brother Gerald Lee Moreland.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 P.M until 7:00 P.M. at Mathews Funeral Home.

Mayme Sheppard Bennett
VALDOSTA Mayme Sheppard Bennett, 87, of Valdosta, died on Tuesday, August 19, 2008. Mrs. Bennett was born in Edison on May 16, 1921, and attended Huntington College and the University of Georgia. She was a homemaker, loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed her family, gardening, and she was a wonderful cook. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Valdosta. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, James T. Bennett, Jr., her mother and father, Jim and Louise Sheppard of Edison, and brothers, Jim H. Sheppard and William M. Sheppard.
Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Jim and Mattie Bennett of Windsor, SC, Mike and Evelyn Bennett of Valdosta, Major Charles (Buck) and Joni Bennett of Brunswick, Greg Bennett of Phoenix City, AL; grandchildren and their spouses, Phillip and Rebecca Moore, Jennifer Bennett all of Aiken, SC, Michael and Molly Bennett, Jimbo and Lori Bennett all of Valdosta, Brittany Bennett Golden, Michael and Jessica Logue all of Fitzgerald, B.J. Mrs. Davis was born October 28, 1916 in Decatur County, GA, the daughter of Homer Lee Newsome and Livonia Ray Newsome. She was the retired owner of Davis Grocery and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Ellis Davis, and a daughter, Olive Wacaser.
Survivors include her daughter, Betty Cross of Climax, GA; five grandchildren, Pamela Cross, Beverly W. Wilson, Renefi Cross, Davis Wacaser, and Rhonda C. Jarrett; 4 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

AUSTELL Mrs. Frances Hamlett Hardin, 88 of Lithia Springs died Sunday, August 17, 2008. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She retired after 47 years, from Kansas Southern Railroad and was a member of various RR Associations. She is preceded in death by her husband W. Green Hardin.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David & Elaine Hardin of Albany; Grandchildren, Heather & Michael Brown of Augusta,Paul & Carrine Hardin of Athens; four great grandchildren; sisters, Ida Cannon of Lithia Springs, Dorothy Thomason of Mableton; Sister-in-law, Marialis Hamlett of Albany, and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Mr. Sexton was born August 25, 1949 in Thomaston, GA son of Geraldine Bradshaw Sexton and the late Clyde E. Sexton. He was a Regional Operations Manager for ICI Deluxe Paints (formerly Glidden) covering a three state area. We will remember him as a man who enjoyed life to its fullest daily and was an avid Alabama fan. He will be missed by his family and friends, but his memories will continue to fill our hearts.
Mr. Sexton was preceded in death by his dad, Clyde E. Sexton, wife, Patricia Still Sexton and a brother, Ricky Sexton.
Survivors include his two sons, Lance (Amanda) Sexton of Carrollton, GA and Chad Sexton of Albany, GA; his mother, Geraldine Bradshaw Sexton of Albany, GA; step-daughter, Tammy (Bert) Le Blanc of Leesburg, GA; two brothers, Steve (Judy) Sexton and David Sexton all of Albany, GA; several nieces, nephews and friends.

COLQUITT Mrs. Marjorie Davis Zipperer, 82, of Colquitt, died Tuesday August 19, 2008 at Miller County Hospital.
Funeral services will be Saturday August 23, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Colquitt First Baptist Church with Dr. Carl Marshall and Rev. Harold Burrell officiating. Burial will follow in the Colquitt City Cemetery with Robin Fazio, Andy Fazio, Bret Boyd, Chase Osborne, Cameron Boyd and Cole Boyd serving as active pallbearers.

Mrs. Zipperer was a retired Teachers Aid from Miller County Elementary School a member of the Colquitt First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Church Choir and the Jolly Elders.
She is survived by three daughters, Beverly (Bob) Fazio of Chattanooga, Tenn., Bonnie Cayce of Rising Fawn, GA, and Ksena Zipperer (Cliff) Thomas of Marianna, FL, two sons Robert (Tammy) Boyd of Moores SC and Erik (Jennifer) Zipperer of Alexandria Va. One brother Harry (Bonnie) Davis of Colquitt. 15 Grandchildren and 7 Great grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her two husbands Melvin C. Boyd and Charles Leonard Zipperer.
