Alton Countryman, Jr.

DAWSON — Alton Countryman, Jr., 63, formerly of Dawson, was called home by the Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at Fort Gaines Healthcare Nursing.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Albritten’s Funeral Services in Dawson. Rev. Raymond Mills will officiate. Burial will be held on Monday, August 25, 2008 at 11 a.m. in Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville.

Alton Countryman, Jr., the son of the late Alton and Carrie Countryman, Sr. was born on June 14, 1945, in Newark, NJ.

Alton was educated in the public schools of Newark, NJ. He served in the US Army for fourteen years and served his country with great honor. He was a wonderful chef and devoted Father and Grandfather.

He was preceded in death by one son, Gregory Countryman, US Army E-7 and one sister, Renee Countryman.

Alton Countryman leaves a legacy of love, strength, and honor to cherish his precious memories three sons: Marc (Sarah) Jessie of Virginia; Terrence Countryman of Albany, GA; and Derico Countryman of Cuthbert, GA. One brother: Jerry Countryman of Dawson, GA. Four sisters: Earleen McLeod, Laura Lewis, Geraldine Williams, Carolyn Countryman all of Newark, NJ. Twelve grandchildren,host niece, nephews, cousins, and a devoted caregiver Barbara Countryman.

Mae Beulah Covin

ALBANY — Mrs. Mae Beulah Covin, 74, of 240 Henry Road, Sylvester died on Monday, August 18, 2008 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 1 p.m. at Gethesemane Worship Center, 1703 North Madison Street in Albany. Bishop Fredrick Williams and Pastor, Rev. Melvin D. Harper, III, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Bright Morning Star Baptist Church Cemetery, Highway 82, Sylvester.

Mrs. Covin was born on August 2, 1934, in Worth County. She attended Worth County Public School. She was a member of the New Mount Olive Baptist Church in Acree. She was a retired Supervisor of Sunnyland Farms.

Survivors include her husband, Mr. John L. Covin, Sr.; eight children, Jessie Covin of Sylvester, Bertha C. McDonald of Albany, Helen Tate (Garnet) of Auburn, Carrie Covin of Union City, Cherrie Covin of Auburn, Beulah M. Covin Warner of Robins, John L. Covin, Jr., of Norfork, VA of Sylvester, Gregory Covin (Olivia) of Dublin and John Henry Covin of Sylvester; four sisters, Eddie Young (Rommie) and Thelma Ford both of Grand Rapid MI, and Lacy Mitchell (Clint) of Detroit, MI and Brenda McDonald of Bradenton, FL; two step sisters, Ida Mae Williams of Grand Rapid, MI and Alice Mae Fcelle of FL; three brothers, Jim Ford (Mattie) and Charlie Ford, Jr., both of Grand Rapid, MI and Edward Anderson of Palatka, FL; 11 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren;Minnie Lee Polite and Adella Biven, and one uncle Dea. Alice Lucille Howell

ALBANY — The funeral service of Alice Lucille Howell, 97, of 390 Middle Rd., Leesburg, GA who died Wednesday August 20, 2008 at Sylvester Health Care will be conducted Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Bobby Moye will officiate. Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery.

A native of Sparks, GA, Mrs. Howell had resided in Leesburg most all of her life. She was retired from Slappey Drive Inn Theatre and was a member of Raleigh White Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph L. (Bud) Howell, a son Charles E. McDowell, a brother, Sam Mathews and a sister, Lollie Mathews Thompson.

Survivors include grandchildren, Marion Moyer, Karen Evans and her husband Louis, Mary Ann Tillman and her husband W.L., great-grandchildren, Tonia Thorpe, Johnnie Evans, Charles Evans, Brian Braswell, Ashley Tillman, Candice Tillman, great-great-grandchildren, Channing McDowell, Tyler McDowell, Zackery Lane and Kelly Tillman.

Nathaniel Jones

DAWSON — Nathaniel Jones, 55, of Dawson, died on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at the Lillian G. Carter Nursing Home in Plains, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Graves. Rev. Larry Hagan will officiate. Interment will follow in Sardis Cemetery in Dawson.

Nathaniel Jones was born in Terrell County Georgia on May 12, 1953 to Johnny Mae Alexander and Brady Jones. At an early age he confessed Christ and joined Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He was educated in the Calhoun County Public Schools and employed with Cargill Industries for numerous years.

Nathaniel was preceded in death by his father: Brady Jones; four sisters: Doris Miller, Eddie Dean Thomas, Mary Nell Harper, and Callie Mae Davis; two brothers: Willie Jones and James Brady Jones.

He leaves to cherish his legacy two sons: Cartez (Shakisha) Jones and Nathaniel Jones, Jr., both of Albany, GA; mother: Johnnie Mae Jones of Dawson, GA; two grandchildren: Tashuhua Bell and Zephaniah Davis of Albany, GA; four sisters: Janice Jones and Jennie Battle, both of Dawson, GA; Juanita Tyson and Gussie Jones, both of Philadelphia, PA; five brothers: Curtis Jones and Alfonza Jones, both of Dawson, GA; Edgar Jones of Marietta, GA; Tony Jones of Austin, TX; and Clarence Jones of Philadelphia, PA. Lt. Colonel Guyton Otis Terry, Jr. US Army (Ret)

ALBANY — Lt. Colonel Guyton Otis Terry, Jr. US Army (Ret) 73, of Martinez, GA formerly of Albany, GA, died August 19, 2008 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Lt. Colonel Terry’s funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday August 23, 2008 at the chapel of Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Chip Gresham will officiate. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery with full military honors.

Lt. Colonel Terry was an Albany native, the first child born to Guyton Otis Terry, and Marion Turner Terry. Mr. Terry was a member of the Albany High School Class of 1953 and was a member of Central Baptist Church. Following his graduation, Mr. Terry attended the University of Georgia; obtaining a Bachelors of Arts degree in English in 1957. While an undergraduate student, Mr. Terry was initiated a brother into Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.

Upon graduation, Mr. Terry received a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force; serving the Air Force for 12 years as a flying officer, Navigator, and Missile Lauch Operator. Mr. Terry was a decorated serviceman; receiving numerous awards, among those, the National Defense Service Medal; Master Missileman Badge; Joint Service Commodation Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal.

In 1969, Mr. Terry enrolled in the Juris Doctor program at the University of Wyoming. He received his law degree in 1972. Upon graduation, Mr. Terry entered the United States Army as an attorney at law; becoming a member of the staff Judge Advocate Corps. Mr. Terry retired from military service in his home state in 1981 with the rank of Lt. Colonel at Fort Gordon, Georgia.

Lt. Colonel Terry continued his professional career with the US Treasury Department as an estate and gift tax attorney. Lt. Colonel Terry has resided in Martinez, GA for the past thirty two years.

Survivors include a son, Guyton O. Terry III and his wife, Gail, of Valdosta, GA,a daughter, Tara Elizabeth Gosneigh and her husband, Michael of Mar, GA, a brother, James Turner Terry and a sister, Louise Terry Gresham and her husband, Jerry all of Albany, GA, two nephews, Rev. Chip Gresham of Albany, GA and Jacob Cameron Terry III of Atlanta, GA, two grandchildren, Emma Caroline Terry of Anna Maria, FL and Connor Williams of Martinez, GA and two step-grandchildren, Sarah Maslowski of Douglas, GA and Emily McMichael of Valdosta, GA

The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. today (Friday) at Mathews Funeral Home.

Madeline Anne Wildes

ALBANY — Madeline Anne Wildes, infant daughter of Landon and Amanda Mathis Wildes who lives at 189 Berkeley Road, Albany, died August 20, 2008 at Egleston Children’s Hospital of Emory.

Her funeral service will be Saturday afternoon at one O’clock PM at First Baptist Church of Albany with interment in Crown Hill Cemetery. Dr. Butch Knight and Rev. Hugh Deloach officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 PM at First Baptist Church.

Born in Albany, she had a contagious smile and gorgeous blue eyes. Her sweet loving spirit would light up the room. She attended First Baptist Church and enjoyed her Sunday School friends. Madeline’s legacy will live on because her organs are helping 8 other babies. She was preceded in death by her grandfather Carl William Mathis, Jr.

Survivors include her parents Landon and Amanda Wildes, Albany; maternal grandmother, Melanie Snead Mathis, Americus; paternal grandparents Buddy and Carol Wildes, Albany; maternal great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Budington Snead, College Park, Mrs. Carl Mathis Sr., Cordele; paternal great grandmother Loyce Hallford, Albany; aunts and uncles, Laura and Mark Rogers, Hahira, Meredith and Randy Spielman, Raleigh, NC; Nathan Mathis, Americus and one cousin Mallory Lane Rogers.

Perry Morey

PELHAM — Mr. Perry Morey, 80, of Pelham, GA passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, GA. Born on February 16, 1928 in Colquitt County, GA to the late Robert ”Bob” Julius and Myrtice Alene Layton Morey, he was a retired welder and was married to the former Jeanette Strickland. Mr. Morey was a member of East Pelham Baptist Church as well as being a member of the Pelham Masonic Lodge {pound}312 and the Smith-Spence American Legion Post {pound}144. Mr. Morey was a veteran of the Air Force and also served as a past volunteer police officer and fireman for the city of Pelham, GA. Mr. Morey is survived by his wife, Jeanette Strickland Morey of Pelham, GA, daughters Norma Lauderdale and husband, Charles, of Pelham, GA and Cathy Ivey and husband, Reid, of Lady Lake, FL, son Terry Morey and wife, Kay, of Cairo, GA, grandchildren Kristie Brantley of Wrightsville, GA, Leslie Lauderdale of Moultrie, GA, Brian Ivey of West Point, GA, Sean Lauderdale of Augusta, GA, Josh Morey of Jacksonville, FL and Dana Rowan of Bainbridge, GA. Mr. Peek was born on December 3, 1956 in Miller County. His was in Drywall/Construction and was a member of Inland Baptist Church.
