Jean Barbree Humphrey

ALBANY — The funeral service of Jean Barbree Humphrey, 81, of Albany, who died Saturday, August 23, 2008 at her residence will be conducted Tuesday 11:00 a.m. at Beattie Road Church of Christ. Minister Sam Hartline, Minister Doug Haught and the Rev. Trey Poole will officiate. Interment will follow in Morgan Methodist Church Cemetery, Morgan, GA.

A native of Sarasota, FL, Mrs. Humphrey was raised in Early County, and moved to Albany and later resided in Morgan for a number of years before returning to Albany. Mrs. Humphrey was a veteran of World War II, retired from J.C. Penney Co., Inc. as their personnel manager, she was the financial officer for the Walter H. Burt American Legion Post No. 30, a member of the Young at Heart, a member of the Thronateeska Chapter of the DAR and a member of the Beattie Road Church of Christ.

Survivors include a son, Ray Humphrey and his wife Marianne, Albany, GA; three daughters, Katherine Gwinn and her husband Bob, of Tallahassee, FL, Becky Granger and her husband Robert, Kaye Blalock and her husband Bob, all of Albany, GA; a brother, Jay Barbree and his wife Jo, of Merritt Island, FL; eight grandchildren, Melissa Gimenez, Billie Jean Finger and Jennifer Collins, all of Albany, Yvonda Greene and Jeanne Brooks, both of Sylvester, GA, Michael Humprey, of Morgan, Robert Gwinn, of Tallahassee, FL, Scott Humphrey, Fairmont, GA; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family is at the residence of Bob and Kaye Blalock, 2915 Thrasher Dr., Albany, GA.

The family will receive friends today (Monday) from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.

Sarah Joyce Ard

COLQUITT — Sarah Joyce Ard, 73, of Colquitt, died Friday, August 22, 2008 at Palmyra Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at New Home Free Will Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Revs. Bobby Whitaker and Benjamin Miller officiating.

Born on February 2, 1935 in Miller County, Mrs. Ard was a homemaker and was a Free Will Baptist faith.

Survivors include a daughter, Lynn (Todd) Thompson of Springfield, TN; two sons, Jeff (Karen) Ard of Corpus Christi, TX, and David Ard of Colquitt; two sisters, Grace Smith of Colquitt and Hilda Everett of Arlington; three sisters-in-law, Janie Sheffield of Colquitt, Ann Williams of Marietta and Laverne (Terrell) Mock of Albany; three grandchildren, three great- grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.
