Joan Velinda Bivens

SYLVESTER — Joan Velinda Bivens, 55, 779 Fiveash Rd., Oakfield, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2008 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2008 at 12 noon at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Warwick with interment in the Church Cemetery with Rev. Joseph Adkins officiating.

Mrs. Bivens was born on November 2, 1952, in Worth County. She attended Worth County Public Schools and was a 1970 graduate of J. W. Holley High School in Sylvester. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse at Palmyra Regional Medical Center in Albany until she retired. She was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Warwick where she served as Church Secretary.

Survivors include two sons, Nicholas Bivens, Jeremy Bivens; three sisters, Ruby Davis, Paulette Coker, Sandra Douglas, two brothers, Harold Bivens, Ricky Bivens; two grandchildren Natalia Lee, Jayden Bivens.

ALBANY — Mrs. Lorene Hill Foreman 89, of Milford, OH died August 27, 2008 at Venetian Gardens in Loveland, OH

Her funeral service will be TODAY Friday, August 29, 2008 at 2 PM at Andersonville National Cemetery. Rev. Elbert Osteen officiating.

A native of Hall County, Texas and a former resident of Albany. Mrs. Foreman has lived in Milford, OH a number of years near her daughter.

Survivors include her son, Ronald Foreman and his wife Linda of Albany, daughter, Jolene Hrusovsky and her husband Tom of Cincinnati, OH, granddaughters, Christine Clifton and her husband Matthew of Moultrie, GA and Jessica Leigh Hrusovsky of Cincinnati, OH, grandson, Matthew Foreman and his wife Shelby of Atlanta, GA, great granddaughter, Lyla Kate Clifton of Moultrie, GA.

Mrs. Foreman was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col., USAF (Ret’d), Finis E. Foreman, half sister, Ida Mae Banks, half brother, John A. Banks, sister, Nora Lee Hill and brothers, E. L. Hill and Lemoine W. Hill.

ALBANY — Irene Terry Prickette 65 of Albany died August 27, 2008 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be Saturday 11 AM at Palmyra Road United Methodist Church. Rev. Randy Spicer, Dr. Hugh Davis and Rev. Dan Harris officiating. Interment services will be 5 PM at Barnesville City Cemetery in Barnesville, GA.

A native of Atlanta, GA , Mrs. Pickette has lived in Albany 20 years where she was a member of Palmyra Road United Methodist Church, UMW and was church pianist for years at Philema Road Baptist Church. Mrs. Prickette worked for a number of years as a broker with Allstate Freight and Murdock Transportation. She also taught piano and organ for many years.

Survivors include her husband Guilford Prickette of Albany, son, Guil Prickette and his wife Rebecca Bingham of Ancorage, AK, daughter, Mary Elizabeth Prickette of Albany, grandchildren, Dylan Prickette and Caeleigh Prickette of Anchorage, AK, brother, Paul Terry and his wife Betty of Ellijay, GA, mother, Virginia Terry of Riverdale, GA , uncles, Clarence and Bill Howell, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Prickette was preceded in death by her father, Forrest Terry.

Zelda Tucker Akins

GORDON — Zelda Tucker Akins, 88 of Asbell St. died Wednesday in Macon.

Services will be held Friday August 29, 2008 at 11:00AM in the Irwinton Baptist Church. Burial will be at 3:30PM in Brushy Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery near Ocilla, Georgia. Rev. Bob Murphy will officiate.

Mrs. Akins was born in Ocilla, GA the daughter of the late James B and Amanda Mixon Tucker. She was the widow of the late William Berman Akins. Mrs. Akins was an Educator for 26 years and taught economics in Sylvester, Moultrie and Dublin and also taught in Wilkinson County for twenty two years. She was a member of the Irwinton Baptist Church and was active in the Women’s Missionary Organization. She was preceded in death by a brother, Eulas Tucker. A daughter-in-law, Becky Akins, a Sister and brother-in-law Evelyn and Edgar Saunderson, and three brother-in-laws and Sister-in-laws; John L. Akins, James I. and Mary Emma Akins, and Harold Akins and Sybil Akins.

Survivors include; Two daughters and son-in-laws; Judy and John Gibbs of Watkinsville and Susan and Denton Hardie of Albany. Two Sons and Daughter-in-law; Bill and Paula Akins of Albany and Bruce Akins of Danville. Mrs. Akins Grandchildren include; Jill and Andrew Derums, Mitchell and Ame Gibbs, Jay Hardie, Tyler Hardie, Anna Hardie, Aubrie Skipper, Candis Skipper, Wil Akins and Mandy and Michael McGhee. Her Six Great Grandchildren are Juliana Derums, Amelia Gibbs, and Tucker, Benjamin and Chase McGhee. Additionae is survived by a sister-in-law; Anna Ruth Akins and numerous nieces nephews

Donations may be made to the Irwinton Baptist Church, the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home or the American Cancer Society.

CUTHBERT — William Theodore “Theo” Avera, 80, of Cuthbert died on August 27, 2008, at his residence. Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, August 30, 2008 at 10 a.m. in East View Cemetery with Rev. Jackie Williams officiating.

Husband, Father, Papa, Brother, Uncle and Friend, Mr. Avera was born on September 10, 1927 in Brooksville, son of the late Bry Theodore and Fannie Pearl Johnson Avera. He was a Baptist, a retired truck driver for the Coca-Cola Company and was in the Army Veteran of World War Two.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Betty Kilcrease Avera of Cuthbert; one son and his wife William Ted and Sabrina Avera of Morris; two daughters and their husbands; Pat and Rick Swick of Coleman and Donna and Tony Walker of Preston; grandchildren Josh and Rebecca White, Logan Walker, Anna Avera, Sidney Avera and Megan Walker; sisters, Ruth Brown of Preston, Josephine Adkins of Marianna, FL, Barbara Bowen of Americus and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings Pearlie Mae Summers of Savannah, Frances Robertson of Lanett, AL, Ann Smith of Denham Springs, LA and Little Charlie Avera.

Argress Kincaid Carr

CAMILLA — Argress Kincaid Carr of Macon, GA passed away on Thursday evening, August 28, 2008. She was born on March 6, 1940. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.O. Kincaid of Camilla, GA. She is survived by her sister Phyllis Royal of Valdosta, cousins Barbara Cosenzo of Macon, Betty Nesmith of Macon, Billy Thigpen of Macon and several other cousins, nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her beloved dog Abbie.

She worked at the Medical Center of Central GA for 28 years. However she was best known in Macon as Mrs. Claus during the holiday season. Argress entertained children at several area hospitals every years.

The graveside services will be at Oakview Cemetery in Camilla, GA on Saturday, August 30, 2008 at 2 p.m.
