Porterfield hosts gospel trio

  • Sunday morning, the Millers will help Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church usher in the new Sunday school year.

ALBANY — Sunday morning, Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church will present the Millers in concert.

The group will perform during each of the church’s morning services, which are 8:30 a.m., 9:15 a.m. and 11:10 a.m. at its 2200 Dawson Road location.

Admission is free.

In a recent news release, Porterfield Director of Music Ministries Steven Kelly Jones explained that the Millers is a gospel/blues trio comprised of father and son W.T. Miller and Jimmy Miller, both of Wausau, Fla., and David Fowler of Binifay, Fla.

The Millers use instruments that the 70-year-old W.T. Miller built — the acoustic guitar, dobro and mandolin.

“W.T. serves as spokesman of the group, sings lead and harmony vocals and plays guitar,” he said. “Jimmy plays dobro, banjo and mandolin, also singing lead and harmony vocals. David Fowler plays bass guitar and sings lead and harmony vocals.”

Sunday’s performances will be held in conjunction with Porterfield’s “Rally Sunday.”

“Rally Sunday kicks off our Sunday school year for our children and youth,” Jones said.

The celebration will include a traditional dinner on the grounds following the 11:10 a.m. service.

“And the Millers will be playing during this time,” Jones said.
