Bainbridge mother-daughter team use links to stay linked

  • Rose Mary Dixon and her daughter Ashley Dixon keep their relationship close by competing together on the golf course.

ALBANY — Ashley Dixon might have moved away to Douglasville --- 229 miles away from her mother Rose Mary in Bainbridge.

But whenever the Georgia Women’s Golf Association holds an event, the two can count on getting together.

“We always play (in the GWGA events),” said Rose Mary, who is tied for fourth in Flight 6. “It doesn’t matter where in the state we have to go, it’s a great way for us to see each other.”

The mother-daughter duo said they play together every year at the GWGA Four-Ball Tournament. And in last year’s tournament at Jekyll Island, the Dixon family team took home first place as Ashley recorded her first career hole-in-one.

“That was a blast,” said Ashley, who is winning Flight 4 with a two-day score of 185 — just one stroke ahead of Albany’s Olivia Flanagan. “It’s great to accomplish that kind of stuff, and share, with family.”

This week, the Dixons were hoping to be paired together in the same group and though their wish was not granted, they both admit its still worth it.

After all, whenever the Dixons think of something to do, golf is one of the first things that come to mind.

“We still talk afterwards,” Ashley said. “Not as much, but we eat together and just have a good time. Golf is a great sport and it’s relaxing. It’s a great place to be.”
