Skinner struggles, now tied for 18th

  • Sonny Skinner scores 4 over par in Saturday’s third round of the Georgia Open.

ADAIRSVILLE — Sonny Skinner started slow but finished strong in Saturday’s third round of the Georgia Open.

The RiverPointe Golf Club assistant pro scored a 4-over-par 76 and is tied for 18th (217 overall) and trails leader Bryant Odum by 12 shots. Skinner, however, made long putts for pars on six of his final nine holes.

“That’s a good thing that I can carry with me (today),” Skinner said.

Skinner struggled with his putting after keeping his tee shots in the fairway. And before he reached the greens, he often struggled with either his irons or chip shots.

“My mistakes I made are easy to fix, so it’s not too big a deal,” Skinner said. “When I finished (Saturday), they had a weather delay because a storm was about to break out and everybody just left. I’m just going to wake up (today) and find out my tee time and go about my business.”
