Artwork by Dougherty High senior Madelyn Vasquez named Kiwanis Best in Show

ALBANY — The Albany-Dougherty Kiwanis Club recently honored local young artists at its 43rd annual Student Art Contest.

The awards ceremony and a reception were held at the Willson Auditorium at the Albany Museum of Art. First- through third-place winners and Best of Show were honored, as were eight students whose work will be part of the Georgia Kiwanis District Art & Music Showcase on April 27 in Macon.

Winners in the local competition were:

Best in Show – Madelyn Vasquez, Dougherty High School; runner-up, Madelyn Vasquez, Dougherty High; third place, Zamora Austin, Dougherty High.

Sixth Grade – First place, Marichuy Lopez, Robert Cross Middle School; second place, Carlasia Jackson, Radium Springs Middle School; third place, Aubrey Brown, Lee Middle School East; honorable mentions: Bella Rahm, Lee Middle East; Reagan Church, Deerfield Middle School.

Seventh Grade – First place, Paityn Mathis, Robert Cross Middle School; second place, Justin Lunsford, Radium Middle School; third place, Landon Roberts, Albany Middle School; honorable mentions: Canon Parish, Deerfield Middle School; Blaze Hurias, Lee Middle East.

Eighth Grade – First place, Yaneria Jackson, Radium Middle School; second place, Te’yunda Jackson; Radium Middle; third place, Te’yunda Jackson, Radium Middle; honorable mentions: Zairia Cutler, Albany Middle School; Te’Yunda Jackson, Radium Middle; Mariah Davis, Albany Middle.
