Encore: ‘Murder Ahoy’ adds performance at Cotton Hall Theater

COLQUITT – After the opening of its murder mystery dinner theater packed the house for two performances on the opening weekend, Cotton Hall is adding an encore performance for the second weekend of the show’s run.
There were only a few tickets remaining for the originally scheduled performances, so the encore performance for “Murder Ahoy” was set for 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Cotton Hall Theater’s yearly operations are primarily supported by ticket sales, which, in the years since COVID-19 have been slow to recover.
The 7 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday performances will include a shrimp and grits dinner catered by Mural City Cafe of Colquitt, with tickets selling for $25. The newly added show will operate a bit differently, according to the theater’s artistic director, Will Murdock.
“Our hope in adding another show is to open it up to even more local people to come see their neighbors on stage and get a good laugh,” he said. “While this encore performance will not include dinner, our concession stand will be open to dish out everyone’s favorite popcorn. And the best part is, tickets are only $15.”
“Murder Ahoy” imagines a murder mystery aboard the Agitation of the Seas, a ragged cruise ship sailing from the Florida coast. On board are several suspicious characters: a vicious cruise director, the overzealous Fun Squad, a kleptomaniacal couple from Missouri, a maneater, a Swedish masseuse, and two captains. When someone ends up dead, it’s up to those on the Lido Deck to solve the mystery.
At intermission, audience members will be asked to vote for the suspect they think committed the crime. Each person who guesses correctly will be entered into a raffle to win two tickets to Cotton Hall’s most famous production, “Swamp Gravy.”
For cast member Tammy Lowe, this is one of the funniest murder mysteries yet.
“I’m enjoying ‘Murder Ahoy’ so much from the first cue to the last bow,” she said. “There are so many funny, quirky, and hilarious lines that have the audience laughing uproariously from start to finish.”
