CHRIS COHILAS: Chad Warbington has true community connection
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Warbington the type of public official who is needed

On Tuesday, Albany citizens of Ward 4 have an important decision. Along with voting for mayor, we will choose our city commissioner to represent us. As chairman of the Dougherty County Commission, I recognize that it goes against conventional political wisdom for me to publicly endorse other candidates — but by now, you who know me recognize that I firmly believe in speaking one’s mind, true thoughts and beliefs. I endorse Chad Warbington for the Ward 4 City Commission seat.
Chad is the type of person we need serving in office. He is a small business owner, a family man. He understands economic development. He employs 15 people, understands how to read a balance sheet. He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech. He is in touch with the needs of the community and will bring added stability to the City Commission. Many of the economic development projects/plans and areas of collaboration that are being worked on between myself, the county and the city will be directly impacted by the decisions in this election. In the past nine months, this community has experienced some tremendous growth in the areas of collaboration, infrastructure development and economic development.
If that is going to continue, and we want to have a hand in that progress, then it is incumbent upon us to vote, particularly in these critical local elections. I have met with Chad multiple times. He is honest, hardworking. However, this is what is important to me — he is not running because he wants a position, or the “perceived prestige” of being an elected official. He is not a career politician who has no connection to the community or to business. Running a city and county government is not prestigious. Politics should not have a place in local government decisions, though it always creeps in. Commissioners serve as fiduciaries for the people’s business, i.e. their local government. We need people like Chad who have the experience, youth, energy, and a true connection to the community and what it really needs, for us to continue to progress. Please join me in voting for Chad Tuesday.
