Deerfield-Windsor girls win region cross country title

The Deerfield-Windsor girls cross country team won the regional championship held at Southland Academy on Wednesday.

Deerfield’s Virginia Moore took the region championship with a time of 20:08, with Camryn Bridges right behind her with a time of 20:27. Southland’s Sydney Hayes took third with a time of 21:39.

Deerfield-Windsor had six runners in the top 10 — Virginia Moore (1), Camryn Bridges (2), Deena Willcox (4), Parker Morgan (7), Flannery Daughtery (8) and Charlotte Augenstein (10). Team scores were DWS with 20 points, Southland with 39 points, Brookwood at 86 and Tiftarea with 96.

On the boys’ side, Southland’s Wright Calhoun took the region championship with a time of 16:19. Deerfield’s leading runner, Ethan Merritt, finished took fourth with a time of 17:10, with Porter Hill coming in sixth with a time of 18:57 and Jackson Allegood taking ninth with a time of 19:18.

Team scores were Southland with 28 points, DWS with 49 points, Brookwood with 63 points and Tiftarea with 85 points.

Deerfield Windsor will host the GISA Cross Country State Meet on Oct. 31st at Darton College, with the first race starting at 9 a.m.
