Albany Police Department taking applications for firearm safety course

ALBANY — The Albany Police Department is now accepting applications for its Basic Firearm Safety Course, to be held on June 21 at 8 a.m. in the Law Enforcement Center Community Room.
The eight hour class, which is open to citizens 21 years of age and older, will cover basic handgun safety, legal issues, and the handling skills needed to use a handgun for self-defense. Seating is limited.
Applicants must sign a release and authorize the Albany Police Department to conduct a background check to obtain any information relating to a criminal history record for the purpose of making a determination of eligibility for the course.
