Revised news release omits Jesse Jackson’s name as featured speaker at book signing

ALBANY — A book signing set for Mt. Zion Baptist Church from 1 to 3 p.m. today, which was originally billed to include Jesse Jackson and Alveda King, will not include Jackson after all.
In a revised press release issued late Friday by a publicist for author Lavarn Watson, Jackson’s name was conspicuously absent from the statement. The release did not mention why Jackson would not be attending the event.
Watson is holding a signing for his new book “Injustice Within Our Justice System: The Lavarn Watson Story.”
According to the Friday release ,”current day and historical civil rights issues will be discussed.”
A woman who answered the phone at Mt. Zion on Thursday stressed that the church “has nothing to do with the event.”
