J&K Entertainment grabs share of spotlight with fair bookings

ALBANY — Jerry Funderburk has worked behind the scenes on the local music scene for a number of years, starting as a 19-year-old roadie who saw a good bit of the country on a Reba McEntire/Brooks & Dunn tour.
Now Funderburk and his wife, Kim, are ready to make a more front-and-center impact with their J&K Entertainment.
“Music is something that I’ve always loved,” Jerry Funderburk said. “I was working in radio when I kind of volunteered as a helper at the (Albany) Civic Center when Reba and Brooks & Dunn played here. I asked Kix Brooks what it would take to work with them on their tour, and it just so happened one of their folks had quit. He told me, ‘Let’s go.’”
That experience gave Funderburk a bug that he hasn’t been able to shake.
“I enjoy my job (with the Thronateeska Heritage Center), but I wanted to get involved in something I love,” Funderburk said. “I’ve found that with music. Kim and I have been working behind the scenes for a little while, but we’re expanding what we do with J&K Entertainment.
“We’re booking shows, providing sound and lighting, DJing, planning weddings — from photography to reception — and signing artists to our label. We’re raising funds now to build a recording studio and working with businesses in the community to sponsor events.”
