Thomas County Central baseball beats Worth County

The Worth County Rams lost 15-5 to Thomas County Central late Monday in a key Region 1-AAAA game.

Keyton Smith got the win for Thomas County Central despite allowing five runs over five innings. He struck out two, walked one and surrendered four hits.

Thomas County Central easily handled the Rams’ pitching as six hitters combined for 10 hits, nine RBIs and 10 runs.

The Worth County Rams jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the top of the first. Shelby Cox started the rally for the Worth County Rams with a single. Jake Jones singled to score Cody Reddell. More runs came home for the Rams when Cox and Newell scored on a two-run error, Bozeman scored on an error and Goff scored on an RBI single from DJ Edwards.

But a seven-run fourth inning from Thomas County Central turned the game into a rout.

Worth finished with just five hits with Jones going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Cox, Gabe Goff and DJ Edwards also had hits. Tripp Goff finished with two RBIs, while Austin Jones also had an RBI.

Deerfield-Windsor tennis teams beat Lee County

The Deerfield-Windsor tennis teams defeated Lee County on Monday. The Knights took a 6-0 victory, while the Lady Knights won 5-1.

Brandon O’Brien defeated Nick Stone 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Cohen Bonner defeated Lee County’s Justin Seo 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2, Porter Hill defeated Agrim Angira 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, while Rob Pilcher defeated Riley Hines 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4.

In boys doubles, Deerfield-Windsor’s No. 1 team of Tyler Lowe/Reed Reynolds defeated Milan Patel/Nick Barlow 6-0, 6-0, while the No. 2 team of Fletcher Cromartie/Bo Williams defeated Jimmy Creamer/Jared Lee 6-2, 6-2.

The Knights improved to 6-3 on the season.

In girls play, Lee County’s Kaitlyn Haas defeated Sarah Perrine 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Deerfield-Windsor’s Stephanie Mathes defeated Bethany Boone 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2, while Emma Reed (DWS) defeated Carlee Daniell 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3. At No. 4, Deerfield-Windsor’s Haley Hallford defeated Arianna Hall 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles play, Deerfield’s Lilia Sullivan/Gabby Pinnero defeated Heena Patel/Zizi Ohamadike 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1, while Abby Ellis/Rebekah Thomas defeated Lee’s Julie Klias/Grace Euchex 6-0, 6-0.

The Lady Knights improve to 6-3.

Deerfield-Windsor played at Valwood late Tuesday night. They will play host to Southland on Thursday at Darton State College.

Westwood baseball beats Fullington

Westwood defeated Fullington 8-5 Monday night in Pinehurst. The Wildcats scored eight runs on nine hits. Senior Kevin Hall led Westwood with a pair of hits. Hunter Lassetter added a double.

Sophomore pitcher Morgan Bell improved to 3-0 on the mound. Bell allowed just two runs in six-plus innings.

The Wildcats (4-4) played at Valwood late Tuesday night. They will play host to Terrell Academy on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Albany State baseball falls to Armstrong

The Albany State baseball team was unable to extend its winning streak to five games on Tuesday afternoon. ASU lost a road contest to Armstrong State University 6-5. With the loss, the Rams fall to 7-24 overall.

Armstrong, who split a doubleheader with the Rams on Mar. 15 in Albany, improves to 18-12.

After Armstrong took a 1-0 lead at the conclusion of the first inning, the Rams got on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning. Reise McDaniel recorded a sacrifice fly to score Payton Dixon and tied the game at one.

In fourth inning, Albany State built a lead of its own. Cody Fleck scored on a fielder’s choice to give the team a 2-1 edge. Then, Jonnie Benniefield and Kelvin Wimbish each scored on a Pirate throwing error to make the score 4-1 in favor of the visitors.

Armstrong answered with what would prove to be the deciding inning. The Pirates answered the Rams’ rally with five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the 6-4 lead they would not relinquish.

Wimbish and McDaniel led the Rams with two hits apiece. Albany State collected six hits as a team and committed one error. Gary Cannon took the mound loss.

Albany State will host Benedict College in an SIAC three-game series Mar. 25-26. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 12 p.m. Saturday’s single game will start at 1 p.m.

Sherwood Christian soccer teams beat Central Fellowship

The Sherwood Christian girls soccer team defeated Central Fellowship 3-1 Tuesday night. The Sherwood boys also scored a 4-0 victory.
