It is time to carefully consider the next four years of operation of Worth County. We have seen some very trying times and decisions made by the Worth County Commission these last four years. When the incumbent chairman took office four years ago, the county had some money in the bank and several CDs to fall back on in the event of disaster. Since that time, all the money has been spent. There have been times when the county could not even meet employee payroll and had to borrow money just to pay employees. I don’t believe the incumbent has intentionally brought the county to this low, but I do not believe he knows how to operate the county efficiently. The reason is he has spent money buying things we didn’t need while refusing to support things we do need. No one should take my word for it. It’s all there in the commission minutes and financial statements.

It is time to look to someone who has the financial background to deal with a large operation such as a county, someone who knows how to prepare and understand a profit and loss statement. That someone is Fred Dent. Mr. Dent has operated a business with a budget rival to that of Worth County for years. He has continually met his goals. Anyone what that experience knows that business is complicated, you must play by the rules to succeed and you cannot compromise your operation with favors to friends.

Sometimes there are tough decisions and those are the times when an experienced individual is of absolute importance, when guesswork and hope will not work. We, in Worth County, are at the point where tough decisions must be made, and we must have that experienced, reliable individual in place to make them. I call upon the taxpayers of Worth County to bring Fred Dent aboard as chairman of the Worth County Commission and let him get about the business of bringing this county back up to a workable, secure financial level.
