Today, the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce kicks off Celebrate Small Business Week, during which the chamber highlights the impact of local entrepreneurs and small business owners whose vision, talent and spirit create jobs, spur investment and enhance the quality of life in our community.

Small businesses are the foundation of America’s free enterprise system, which, among other benefits, allows for consumer sovereignty, competition, profit motive, the right to choose employment and the right to private property, all with limited government restrictions or interventions.

In Georgia, 78 percent of all businesses have fewer than 10 employees, and 95 percent of businesses have fewer than 50 employees. Albany is fortunate to have a diversified economy that boasts successful small businesses and thriving global industries.

Supporting small businesses has an incredible payoff for our community. Of every $100 spent at a locally-owned business, $68 recirculates within the local economy. These dollars help create jobs, support families, fund necessary government services, provide investment for neighborhood improvements and promote development in our community. The impact to the economy is significant when consumers first “Think Local” when making purchasing decisions.

The Albany Area Chamber of Commerce works on behalf of its members to provide the advocacy, voice, networking opportunities, partnerships and programs that facilitate a healthy business climate and support entrepreneurs and small business owners who “dream big, start small.”

We encourage all citizens to join the chamber this week – and every day – as we celebrate, promote and support our small businesses, and encourage all to participate in the activities scheduled for Celebrate Small Business Week.
