Worth County hopes to continue improving against Early County
The Rams lost to Veterans last week

SYLVESTER — Worth County coach Jason Tone knows the season could have gotten off to a better start, but that his team has shown steady improvement in each of the first three games.
After falling to Thomas County Central 48-7 in the season opener, the Rams battled back in the second game of the year to beat Turner County on a last-second field goal.
The third game was a 13-10 loss to Veterans, but the Worth defense played strong and allowed a season-low 13 points.
“I thought the defense played great,” Tone said. “They really allowed one drive in the first half and one in the second half. Veterans had four three-and-outs in the second half and our defense allowed just 80 yards.”
Tone said he would like to see the Rams cut down on penalties before today’s 7:30 p.m. game against Early County at Worth County Stadium.
The Rams found themselves in multiple bad situations due to mental mistakes and Tone said the offense isn’t suited to gain big chunks of yards.
“We’ve got to execute better,” Tone said. “There were a few little off offensively. We are trying to cut down on our penalties. We didn’t have any turnovers, but we had eight penalties. We’ve got to do a better job of not having false starts and shooting ourselves in the foot.”
After two games, Early County is currently 0-1-1. The Bobcats lost the season opener to Eufaula (Ala.) and tied Seminole County 7-7 in the second game of the year.
Early is coming off a succesful 2015 campaign that saw the Bobcats go 7-4-1 and make it to the second round of the playoffs.
“On film, they are big and athletic,” Tone said. “They are strong on both sides of the ball. They have a big quarterback. It’s really a typical Early County team, big and physical.”
Despite the 1-2 record, Tone didn’t sound worried about his team. The Rams had the same record last year before winning six of their last seven games to make the playoffs.
