WOODBURY, Ga. — Just a few days after the Westwood Lady Wildcats lost in the Georgia Independent Schools Association Region 3-AA championship game, the team returned to its winning ways Tuesday night in the first round of the GISA Class AA state tourney.
The Lady Wildcats took a 66-51 victory over Windsor Academy, leaving coach Derrick Harris pleased.
“Losing to Crisp Academy Friday night was a tuneup,” he said. “Every vehicle needs a tuneup before you get out on the road. We got that last week. We’re ready to move on.”
Gracie Pollock led Westwood (27-2) with a double-double (32 points, 11 rebounds). But the spark of the night came from post player Jenson Jones, who started in the place of injured Karlie Jones. Jenson Jones finished with seven points, 14 rebounds and two blocks inside.
“She made me feel really good,” Harris said of Jenson Jones. “Anytime you have a player come off the bench like that and start, then have that kind of performance is tough. She played well.”
Karlie Jones finished with four points in limited action.
Maegan Moye finished with nine points, while Brianna Thompson added eight. Elizabeth Glass finished with 12 rebounds.
Westwood advances to the quarterfinals where they wil meetl the Flint River-Twiggs winner Friday night at 5 :30 p.m. at Brewton Parker College.
