Worth County baseball defeats Fitgerald in season opener

Worth County and Fitzgerald traded leads on Monday but eventually the Rams prevailed 14-6 in the baseball season opener for both teams.
The Rams took the lead for good in the fifth inning. Riley Kelly broke a 5-all tie when his single scored a pair of runs.
Fitzgerald scored four runs in the third inning, but Worth still managed to pull out the victory. The big inning for Fitzgerald came thanks to a home run by Bailey Alexander, a walk by Mason Clements and a passed ball.
The Purple Hurricanes captured the lead in the second inning. Fitzgerald scored one run on a stolen base in the second inning.
Worth County scored seven runs in the sixth inning. The Rams scored on a fielder’s choice by Hunter Goodwin, a walk by Gabe Goff, a grand slam by Braden King and a single by Cody Ragan.
Fitzgerald evened things up at five in the top of the third inning.
Goodwin earned the win for the Rams. He threw three innings, allowing five runs, six hits and struck out seven.
Worth County Rams Varsity collected eight hits. DJ Edwards and Kelly each collected multiple hits for Worth County.
