ALBANY — Rabbitman’s Footwear’s Skate Park Extravaganza last year drew more than 1,000 spectators, most of them youngsters, and went off without a hitch, called by some attendees the best event for young people that the city’s had.

Rabbitman’s co-owners, brothers Johnny and Elijah “Tony” Williams, announced the third Rabbitman’s Extravaganza Monday at the Dougherty County Commission’s work meeting, asking commissioners to “personally support us” and to provide a banner on the day of the event “to show we’ve got the support of the entire community.”

The Freestyle Connection BMX stunt team will perform at this year’s Extravaganza, scheduled from 1 p.m.-6 p.m. May 28. The Williams brothers said more acts will be added to the event lineup in the weeks leading up to it.

“The young people here loved last year’s Extravaganza; we had great support from the community, and (the performers) put on a good show,” Johnny Williams told commissioners. “We’re gearing this toward kids, basically throughout the school system. It’s something they can enjoy.”

Activities at the Extravaganza, which is free to the public, include food, games, prizes, face painting, bouncy houses, and, of course, the high-flying acrobatics of the stunt riders.

The Rabbitman’s owners are looking for community sponsorships to defray the cost of the event, offering levels from Partner ($1,000) to Friend ($500) to Activity ($150) and In-Kind for individuals and businesses that are willing to donate food items or giveaway items such as skateboards, bikes, scooters, book bags and school supplies.

To help sponsor the Extravaganza or to get more information, go by Rabbitman’s at 125 College Drive or call (229) 436-1617.

“We will definitely take this under advisement to see what the desire is of the commissioners,” County Commission Chairman Chris Cohilas told the Williamses.
