Henderson lifts Golden Rams to first win
Jonathan Henderson’s 3-pointer with 12 seconds remaining Saturday gave the Albany State men’s basketball team its first win of the season, 73-72 in overtime at Lane.
Albany State (1-13, 1-5 SIAC) trailed the entire overtime period until Henderson made his 3-point attempt. Lane had built a five-point lead, a margin trimmed by Tylen Walker’s 3-pointer with 18 seconds remaining.
Lane (4-6, 3-3) led for most of the second half. Albany State rallied from a four-point deficit in the final minute of regulation, with Napoleon Harris making a pair of free throws and Jayson Snearl tying things up with an offensive putback with 15 seconds remaining.
Randy McClure led Albany State with 14 points. Walker scored 11, while Snearl added 10.
Albany State hosts Spring Hill at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Foster, Green lead Albany State women past Lane
Elesha Foster scored 21 points and Kayla Green added 19 as the Albany State women’s basketball team defeated Lane 70-66 on Saturday in Jackson, Tennessee.
The Golden Rams trailed by eight points early in the third quarter but took the lead for good with four seconds remaining in the third on a three-point play by Green. Albany State then went on an 11-2 run to start the fourth quarter before holding on for the win.
Albany State improved to 9-8, 5-2 in the SIAC. Lane fell to 2-11, 2-4.
The Golden Rams host Spring Hill at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Georgia Southwestern men outlast Lander
R.J. Sessions and Hasaan Buggs posted double-doubles while Andre Statam scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Georgia Southwestern men’s basketball team past Lander 76-74 on Saturday in Americus.
The Hurricanes improved to 5-3 overall and picked up their first Peach Belt Conference win (1-3) while Lander fell to 5-6, 1-4.
Statam made 9-of-13 shots en route to his 21 points. Sessions grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and finished with 15 points. Buggs’ stat line included 11 rebounds, 10 points and three blocks.
Georgia Southwestern hosts Georgia College at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
