ALBANY – The Albany State Golden Rams completed a three-game sweep of SIAC foe LeMoyne-Owen Sunday afternoon with a 15-4 win over the Magicians. In three games this weekend, Albany State scored 50 runs on 46 hits. Albany State won 15-3 in game one and took game two 20-0 on Saturday. The Golden Rams are now 4-2 on the young season and 3-0 in the SIAC.
Sunday’s game began with overcast skies and temperatures hovering in the mid-40’s but the bats warmed up and knocked out 16 hits in just six innings of batting. Former Terrell Academy star Luke Addison and redshirt freshman Emory Stephens from Marietta each smacked three hits.
Former Lee County star and now second baseman and leadoff hitter Jonathan Logsdon knocked in four runs on two hits.
Logsdon, Bradley Smith, and Austin Roberts all doubled in the sixth inning to help end the game early with the run rule.
The Golden Rams did make a couple of mistakes on the base paths with one runner caught in a rundown and another picked off at second base.
LeMoyne-Owen’s highlight was a sterling double play at third base. The Golden Rams had the bases loaded when a ground ball went to third baseman Eldrion Harvell. Harvell scooped up the ground ball, raced to third, and threw a perfect, off-balance strike to first base to complete the double play.
Andrew McBride, a junior from Arab, Ala., took the win on the mound. He pitched three innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs. Calvin Baker pitched three scoreless innings in relief, and Tyler Bullock finished the game on the mound.
Addison knocked in four runs on three hits during Saturday’s first game while Bradley Smith and Zane Ross each batted in three. The Golden Rams belted 14 hits in the opener Saturday and scored in every inning.
Brady Davis earned the win on the mound, pitching four innings. He allowed three hits and one earned run. He walked two and struck out six. Sebastian Griffeth and Thomas Willis pitched in relief.
The Golden Ram bats were hot in game two Saturday with 16 hits, including a grand slam, two triples, and five doubles.
Bradley Smith, a senior from Cataula, belted a grand slam in the first inning to score Logsdon, Ross, and Addison. Former Terrell County star Quintard Wright tripled in three runs in the third inning to start a seven-run inning for the Golden Rams. Logsdon doubled and Ross tripled in the inning and Albany State led 11-0 after the third inning.
Landon Kiefer pitched four scoreless innings to earn the win on the mound. He didn’t allow any hits but walked three and struck out eight. William Beasley and Addison finished the game on the mound.
The Golden Rams will be back on the field Wednesday when they host Thomas University here in Albany. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
