Basketball Shorts: Deerfield-Windsor sweeps Southland, Lee County, Dougherty, Calhoun all win

AMERICUS – The Deerfield-Windsor basketball teams swept big region wins over Southland Academy Tuesday night Americus. The Lady Knights won 63-31 and the Knights followed with a 64-46 win.
Senior Joi Hubbard scored 29 points for Deerfield-Windsor – 21 in the second half – to keep Southland behind. Murphy Ray scored 15, Hampton Rushton put in nine and Gabrielle Harris added eight for the winners.
Five different Deerfield-Windsor Knights made it to double figures Tuesday night. Lane Sceals led the way with 19 points, Gabe Daniel scored 13 while Mason Johnson, Jake Hatcher, and Grier Morey each scored 10.
The Knights will play at Valwood in Valdosta Friday night in the final regular season game of the year.
Lee County 88 Veterans 61
KATHLEEN – The No. 6-ranked Lee County Trojans (21-3) finished the regular season unbeaten in Region 1-6A with a big 88-61 win over Veterans HIgh School.
All-State guard Josiah Parker scored 21 first-half points to push the Trojans out front and Lee County cruised to the big win.
Parker finished the night with 25 points, Brayden Moore scored 17, Torren Williams put in 12 and Trecori Green added 10.
Dougherty 53 Thomasville 49
ALBANY – The No. 8-ranked Dougherty Trojans (17-7) survived a scare Tuesday night in Albany, edging Thomasville 53-49 in a defensive battle. The Trojans, with some of the best shooters around, managed just six fourth-quarter points. Fortunately, Thomasville (5-14) only scored eight.
Kaleke Singeltary-Jinks led Dougherty with 20 points.
The Trojans will travel to Carver for the final game of the regular season Friday night.
Calhoun County 78 Miller County 41
COLQUITT – The No. 3-ranked Calhoun County Cougars (21-4) finished their regular season Tuesday night with a 78-41 rout over Miller County in Colquitt. The Cougars finished the region competition with a perfect 18-0 record and will take the top seed heading into the region tournament at Albany State University.
Zion Suber scored 14 points to lead the Cougars while Tremayne Johnson, Jr. put in 13.
