Monroe’s Kie’Aundria Acree named Region Player of the Year

ALBANY – Region 1-AAA girl’s basketball awards were announced recently bu the region coaches and Monroe freshman Kie’Aundria Acree was named as the region’s “Player of the Year.” Other local players were honored as well.

Acree, the daughter of Monroe head coach Jennifer Acree and the recipient on multiple Division I college offers, averaged 24.1 points per game in leading Monroe to a 22-10 record and a final-four appearance.  She shot 49% from the field and averaged 11 rebounds and six assists.

Dougherty’s Jatiana Chambers was named the “Offensive Player of the Year.” She averaged 17.7 points and eight assists per game.

Monroe senior Ciarra Lunsford took a spot on the region’s first team as well. She averaged 14.1 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.

On the All-Region second team, Monroe’s Taylor Mckinzy and Dougherty’s Grace Smith took spots.

Named in the honorable mention group were Monroe’s Quaneisha Sims and Joceilyn Thomas, as well as Dougherty’s Dariona Simmons.
