ALBANY — An Albany man was stabbed by his girlfriend after a heated argument about gainful employment turned violent, according to Albany Police Department reports.
The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Upon arrival, officers found the victim, Johnnie Lee Bogan, with a knife wound to his left thigh. Bogan told officers the incident had occurred inside his home at 923 Mercedes St. with girlfriend Barbara Ann Brown, who, he said, stabbed him.
“Bogan advised that he and Brown got into a verbal altercation because he did not have a job and she wanted him to leave the residence,” the APD police report said. “Bogan stated that he refused to leave because he lives there and did not have anywhere else to go. Bogan advised that Brown has a mental problem and just snapped.”
At this point, the situation escalated to physical violence, the report said.
“Bogan stated that Brown went into the kitchen and came back into the bedroom with what he believes was a knife,” the APD report said. “Bogan advised that they continued to exchange words, and Brown stabbed him in his thigh while he was sitting on the bed.”
Brown continued to demand that he leave after stabbing him, Bogan told officers, so he left and went to a neighbor’s home for help. Bogan was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for treatment, and Brown was arrested some time later.
According to the police report, the couple had been together for 21 years.
“The female, Barbara Ann Brown, is in custody,” APD spokeswoman Phyllis Banks said Friday afternoon. “The initial investigation revealed that the incident is domestic in nature. Brown has been charged with aggravated assault.”
