ALBANY — Jamye Cobb, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Walden & Kirdland Inc., and other industry experts will discuss credit scores, insurance, house hunting and more with attendees at a homeownership seminar Cobb will host on April 26.

Cobb held a similar expo in 2010 with about 70 people in attendance, and she said she hopes to educate more individuals this time around.

Cobb has been a Realtor in Albany for 13 years and has taken particular note of the homeownership situation in the area.

“What inspired me to do this,” she said, “is to help the community be more familiar with the process, be more confident and make wiser choices and wiser decisions as it relates to home-buying. I think there’s a major need for this information.

“Albany has roughly 90,000 residents, and only between 30-35 percent of those residents are homeowners. And to me, that is terrible. I would like to help improve that because I feel like homeownership stabilizes a community, it gives people a greater sense of pride and accomplishment, and this is my way of assisting with that. Now, of course, I can’t sell everybody a house, but I can try to get accurate information out there.”

The list of topics that will be discussed at the seminar includes improving credit scores, qualifying for a mortgage, house hunting, due diligence, appraisals, insurance, closing day expectations and more. Helping present the information will be Patrick Williams, a loan originator at Colony Bank; Yvette Nelson, a credit expert at New Freedom Financial Services; Kent Nance, a State Farm insurance agent, and attorney M. Jeremy Lynch.

For those interested, the event will take place at the Commodore Conyers College and Career Academy at 1615 Newton Road from 6-8 p.m.
