Albany State outscores Benedict College 49-9 in three game sweep

ALBANY — The Albany State Golden Rams outscored Benedict College 49-9 in three games over the weekend to improve their SIAC record to 25-2 and the overall record to 28-9 with just seven regular season games remaining. The Golden Rams took game one 16-5, game two 12-1 and the final game  21-3.

“I was extremely pleased with the way we played this weekend,” head coach Scott Hemmings said. “We only gave up 3 or 4 earned runs all weekend and we got quality starts from (Brady) Davis, (Jeremiah) Reddell and (Landon) Kiefer. Jeremiah (Reddell) looked like his old self this weekend with late life on the fastball.

“On the offensive side, (Jonathan) Logsdon, (Zane) Ross and (Luke) Addison took over with Hill Corley finding his swing and playing a great shortstop,” Hemmings added. “Logsdon was 10×15 on the week with 12 RBI and showed how great of a player he is. We have a tall task going to Savannah this weekend and I want us to stay focused on getting better and not looking toward the tournament.”

Senior leadoff batter Logsdon improved his team-leading batting average to .459 with nine hits during the three games. He belted one home run, three triples and two doubles, knocking in 12 runs and scoring eight times.

Center fielder Ross, a senior from Sydney, Australia, who bats right after Logsdon, smacked 10 hits, including three doubles. He batted in eight runs and scored eight runs. He improved his batting average to .397.

Luke Addison bats third in the lineup and picked up seven hits in the three games, including his team-high eighth home run of the year. Addison knocked in seven runs and scored seven times.

Corley, playing shortstop this weekend, smacked six hits and knocked in six runs for the Golden Rams.

Davis, Reddell and Kiefer started the three games on the mound this weekend and were the three winning pitchers.

The Golden Rams are headed to Savannah this weekend for a series with the Savannah State University Tigers. (23-8, 17-7). The Tigers are a half-game ahead of Spring Hill College to hold second place in the SIAC standings, and the Tigers are expected to be a challenge in the upcoming SIAC Tournament. The championship tournament will be held in Albany from May 2-5.
