Despite the Detroit Pistons being without a general manager, the team may have narrowed its head-coaching search to two candidates.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Pistons desire “further conversations” with former Toronto Raptors coach Dwane Casey and University of Michigan coach John Beilein. Per Wojnarowski, both candidates have already interviewed with Detroit.
The Pistons parted ways with general manager Jeff Bower on Friday, leaving the search for a new coach and a new GM to Ed Stefanski, hired as a senior adviser to owner Tom Gores last week.
The team is a month removed from firing Stan Van Gundy as both head coach and president of basketball operations. The Pistons have recorded just one winning season in the past 10 years.
On Thursday, the Pistons interviewed both Beilein and Casey, according to multiple reports. The club also interviewed former Milwaukee Bucks coach and NBA great Jason Kidd on Saturday, according to Jordan Schultz of Yahoo Sports. Kidd was let go by the Bucks during the season. Including one season with the Brooklyn Nets, Kidd is 183-190 as an NBA head coach.
The Pistons had also reportedly been considering Miami Heat assistant Juwan Howard — a former Fab Five star at Michigan — and TNT analyst Kenny Smith as a replacement for Van Gundy as head coach.
