Albany State is set to announce its new men’s basketball head coach at a 2 p.m. news conference Tuesday.

The Golden Rams have been without at men’s basketball head coach since May 8, when the university announced the firing of Michael Moore.

Moore went 32-80 in four seasons with Albany State, including an 8-21 record last season.

World Cup semifinals set

France will make a bid for its third World Cup final when it takes on Belgium at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

The French side, which beat Brazil in the 1998 final and lost to Italy in the 2006 final, advanced to the semifinals with a 2-0 win Friday over Uruguay.

Belgium, meanwhile, is looking to play in its first World Cup final. The Belgians upset Brazil 2-1 on Friday.

Croatia, which knocked out host Russia on Saturday, will take on England, a 2-0 winner over Sweden, in Wednesday’s 2 p.m. semifinal in Moscow. Croatia is looking for its first appearance in a final, while England is looking to return for the first time since its 1966 victory over West Germany.

The final is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Sunday, also in Moscow.

Mercer product to play in Futures Game

Former Mercer outfielder Kyle Lewis, a member of the Seattle minor-league system, has been named to the Team United States roster for Sunday’s All-Star Futures Game.

The game will take place at 4 p.m. and will be televised by the MLB Network.

According to a news release from Mercer, Lewis is batting .262 (43-for-164) with 18 runs, 14 doubles, five home runs and 27 RBI in 41 games with high-A Modesto this season.He was picked for the Midwest League All-Star Game.

As a professional, Lewis, a Snellville native who played for Mercer from 2014-16, is a career .269 hitter with 73 runs, 28 doubles, six triples, 15 home runs and 84 RBI in 120 games over parts of three minor-league seasons in the Mariners organization. He was the 2016 Golden Spikes Award winner.
